“All The Players…”: BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia Reiterates Board’s Crucial Guideline

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has really been strict about its rules set for centrally-contracted players when it comes to their participation in domestic matches. As per BCCI’s guidelines that were shared by the Board last year, a centrally-contracted player, who is fit and not in national duty, needs to play domestic cricket for his respective team. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan didn’t follow the instructions earlier and were thus dropped out of BCCI central contract. After sending the message quite and clear with the list announced in February last year, the Board said, “The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team.”  Days ahead of the start of Indian Premier League 2025,  BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has reiterated the Board’s advice. “There’s another important point that we’ve added in our guidelines. All the players, when they are available, have to play in domestic tournaments,’ Saikia told Times of India. However, he also clarified …

“Both Hands Intact” Guideline For Pursuing MBBS Reeks Of Ableism: Court

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court on Friday said the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines requiring students with specified disabilities to have “both hands intact” to pursue MBBS course was “completely antithetical” and reeked of “ableism”. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan observed the guidelines prescribed “both hands intact, with intact sensations, sufficient strength and range of motion” to be essential for eligibility in the medical course. “This prescription of ‘both hands intact…’ is completely antithetical to Article 41 of the Constitution; the principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the salutary provisions of the RPwD Act (Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016),” said the bench. The court went on to add, “It also indicates a classification which is overbroad and glorifies ‘ableism’. It propagates that persons with typical abilities and with faculties similar to what the majority may have or somehow superior.” This was precisely what the Directive Principles of State Policy, the United Nations Convention and the 2016 Act abhor, …

BCCI’s New Guideline Implemented Ahead Of England T20I Series. Restrictions On…

The implementation of the 10-point policy guidelines for the Indian cricket team has begun with the BCCI communicating to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that no separate vehicle should be arranged for any player as all are required to travel by the team bus. The Indian team is in Kolkata for the T20I series-opener against England at the Eden Gardens on January 22. After the Australia series debacle, the BCCI has come out with a 10-point SOP. As per the SOP, “all players are required to stay for the entire duration of scheduled practice sessions and travel together to and from the venue. This rule ensures commitment and fosters a strong work ethic within the team.” India skipper Rohit Sharma has already expressed his reservations on certain clauses but it is understood that BCCI has already put at least one of the 10 clauses in force. The 10-point ‘policy document’ outlining the new guidelines was shared with all state cricket boards, hosting the India-England matches, including the CAB. CAB president Snehasish Ganguly …

‘India didn’t lose because wives and partners were there’: Harbhajan Singh says BCCI’s 10-point guideline ‘deviating from main point’ | Cricket News

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Friday said that the BCCI’s recently issued 10-point policy for the centrally-contracted players existed even during his playing days but was puzzled to find it “altered” over th eyears. Following on the heels of their ignominious Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat, the BCCI conducted a review meeting that was attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. Among the guidelines after the meeting, accessed by The Indian Express, participation in domestic tournaments is mandatory for selection and tops the list followed by rules for family travel, baggage allowance, and restrictions on personal staff, ad shoots and a ban on players returning home if matches end early. To underline the severity of these guidelines, the BCCI has stated that any player who doesn’t comply with it may face disciplinary action which includes sanctions from playing tournaments conducted by the board including the Indian Premier League and deduction in annual contract and match fee. “When I was reading the travel policy document reported by the media, …

Experts say NMC’s revised CBME guideline no better, demand another round of review and correction

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has reissued its Competency-Based Medical Education Curriculum (CBME-2024) guidelines for MBBS students following uproar from Persons with Disabilities and the transgender community over the use of certain terms. Last month, the NMC had to withdraw the guidelines after protests were raised about infringing on the rights of persons with disabilities and transgenders. The revised version too has come under fire from the protesting groups that said “this 466-word document has no mention of key terms such as “dignity” or “transgender.” It has now written to all stakeholders demanding immediate revision of the norms. The NMC is the topmost body responsible for regulating medical education in the country. Dr. Satendra Singh, a disability rights activist, told The Hindu, that during the two-week foundation course, while eight hours is dedicated to “sports”, there is no explicit mention of disability competencies that were mandatory in the 2019 curriculum (seven hours) but are now removed. Psychiatry continues to refer to “gender identity disorders” and physiology describes sexual differentiation/intersex variations as “abnormalities”. Furthermore, paediatrics fails …
