The four AAP MLAs – Gopal Italia, Chaitar Vasava, Hemant Khava and Sudhir Vaghani – raised slogans holding banners just before Tuesday’s House proceedings commenced demanding live-streaming of the House proceedings, as they claimed that not doing so is “killing democracy”. The Gujarat government, which is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda, said in a statement issued on Saturday that it has resolved to celebrate 2025 as the ‘Tribal Pride Year’. The statement also said genome sequencing of tribals, as announced by the government in July last, would be a part of this. The government said that 31 tribal groups from 11 districts would be covered. The Gujarat Power Engineering and Research Institute (GPERI) located in Mehsana district’s Mevad village will now be known by a new name — Gujarat Technological University — Institute of Technology and Research (GTU-ITR), from May 1. The institute which changed hands from Gujarat Power Corporation to Gujarat Technological University in 2020, authorities shared, was still under the impression of being managed by the former. The GTU brand was not reflected and people were still under the impression that it is not good, a senior official stated. To change that perception, GTU assured that the “brand” is in the new name. The newly formed Mehsana Municipal Corporation on Monday launched a city bus service. The first bus was driven by Rajya Sabha MP Mayank Nayak. Nayak, a resident of Mehsana city, said, “I hold a heavy motor vehicle license. So, I decided to drive the first bus as local MLAs and other office-bearers also travelled in it. It was just to encourage people to avail the bus service.” Nayak said that he also had some suggestions, which included drinking water facility on the buses specially in the summer. One of the reasons cited for the delay in tabling the annual report for 2021-2022 of the Gujarat Minorities Finance and Development Corporation (GMFDC), a state-government enterprise for the welfare of minorities and the specially abled, is the time it took to translate it into Gujarati. An explanatory note in the report, published on the Assembly website, says that the annual accounts for financial year 2020-21 were delayed “due to the worldwide corona” and could be placed in the Assembly only on February 27, 2024, after which the auditing started and it went to the office of the Accountant General in Rajkot in March last year. The report was placed before the Corporation’s Annual General Meeting on September 13 last year.
