Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro ridership rises fourfold in three years

Image used for representative purpose only. | Photo Credit: PTI Daily passenger traffic on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro has increased from around 35,000 to about 1.5 lakh over the past three years, according to official data. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the metro service up to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar on January 11 as part of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-2. The extension has added direct metro connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. More than 11.50 crore passengers travelled on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro between October 2022 and December 2025. In 2023, monthly ridership ranged between 12 lakh and 27 lakh passengers. In 2024, the figure increased to 27–35 lakh passengers per month. In 2025, monthly ridership crossed 44 lakh passengers. With the latest extension, Mahatma Mandir Metro Station has direct connectivity to Gandhinagar Railway Station. The metro network now provides access to Akshardham Temple and Dandi Kutir. The extension is expected to be used by employees, students and daily commuters, including visitors attending national and international programmes at Mahatma Mandir and students of Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya. Road closure Ahmedabad Traffic Police has declared the route between Janpath T junction towards Krupa Residency and up to Motera T junction closed at certain times during the matches. According to the notification, issued Saturday, these areas will remain closed to traffic in the following durations: From 2 pm on March 25 to 2 am on March 26.  From 2 pm on March 29 to 2 am on March 30.
