Gold paste in shirt collars: 2 Maharashtra men held at Ahmedabad airport | Ahmedabad News

1 min readAhmedabadJul 23, 2026 12:37 AM IST The Customs department in Ahmedabad on Wednesday said they have apprehended two  passengers from Maharashtra while they were trying to smuggle 129.18 grams of gold worth Rs19.48 lakh in paste form by hiding it under their shirt collars. They were apprehended at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. While one is a resident of Mumbai, the other hails from Ulhasnagar. A statement from the department said, “Acting on specific intelligence received from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Ahmedabad Customs,  intercepted two male passengers who arrived from Dubai at Ahmedabad on July 22 by Flight No. 6E-1478.” It further said, “Upon detailed examination, the passengers were found to have ingeniously concealed gold paste inside the collars of their shirts. The recovered gold paste was processed and converted into TT bars of 24 Kt purity, having a net weight of 129.18 grams and a total market value of Rs 19,48,034.” Further investigation is underway.   Disclaimer: We do not own …

Three lions believed to have been involved in the fatal attack on an 11-year-old boy at Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary have been captured and shifted to Sakkarbaug Zoo for scientific examination, the Gujarat Forest Department said on Saturday, as investigators continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim, Mayur Chauhan, from Kheda district, was killed after being attacked near the 50th step on the newly constructed Girnar staircase route earlier in the day. Following the incident, the Forest Department launched a large-scale operation involving forest officials, veterinarians and wildlife trackers. Providing an update on the rescue operation, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Akshay Joshi said the group of lions involved had been successfully captured. The Gujarat Police had, in December 2022, nine months after the trial court verdict in this case, announced rewards of Rs 2 lakh each for anyone stepping forward to give credible information leading to the arrest of four absconders accused in the 2008 serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad. Of the 77 arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Gujarat Police, 49 were convicted by the trial court in February 2022.
