Considering the prosecution argument that doctors and management of Khyati Multi-Speciality Hospital had “adopted unethical medical practice to earn illegal money” under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or PMJAY scheme, the Sessions Court of Ahmedabad, on Friday, rejected the regular bail pleas of visiting cardiologist Dr Prashant Vazirani as well as Chief Executive Officer Rahul Jain. Vazirani, who is accused of performing angiography and angioplasty on the patients under the PMJAY scheme, had submitted in his application that the two patients, who died, “had developed complications, which are known and inherent in the procedure” and that there had been “no negligence or rash act” by the doctor. Vazirani’s lawyer S V Thakkar argued that the 37-year-old was the “sole breadwinner of his family” and had “no past antecedent”. Thakkar submitted, “After angiography he (Vazirani) found nine patients were normal and 10 had coronary artery disease and he advised only seven patients for angioplasty.
