Rainfall continues in southern dists, more predicted till Sept 9 | Ahmedabad News

Heavy rainfall continued to lash southern Gujarat districts like Bharuch, Surat, Valsad and Navsari for the second consecutive day on Tuesday with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain till September 9, mostly in the southern districts. According to a report of the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar, during the last 24 hours ending 6 am on Tuesday, Valia taluka of Bharuch received 297 mm (12 inches) of rain. Between 6 am and 6 pm, Valia recorded the highest in the state, at 156 mm, among the 187 talukas that received showers on Tuesday. Bharuch’s Netrang taluka recorded 127 mm of rainfall, followed by Surat’s Umarpada (105 mm) and Valsad taluka in the district (104 mm) till 4 pm Other talukas that received heavy rainfall were Jotna (95 mm) in Mehsana, Vapi (85 mm) in Valsad, Palsana (77 mm) in Surat, Pardi (69 mm) in Valsad, Mangrol (66 mm) in Surat and Ropar (65 mm) in Kutch. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a red alert for extremely heavy rains in several parts of Gujarat. The latest weather report comes after several parts of the state received heavy rain on Monday (September 2), with Bharuch city getting 120 millimetres between 4 pm and 6 pm. The state had seen extremely heavy rains last week, which caused widespread flooding. The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain in the state this week. As per the weather department, heavy rains are likely in Chhotaudepur, Narmada and Surat. Downpour is also expected at isolated places in Banaskantha, Dahod, Panchmahal, Navsari, Valsad and Tapi. The IMD has also issued a red alert for Wednesday (September 4), predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy downpours in parts of Gujarat, specifically in the Surat and Bharuch districts. Indian Coast Guard’s ALH helicopter makes emergency landing in Arabian Sea, 3 crew members missing – India TV

Image Source : PTI (FILE) Representative image An Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) helicopter with four crews onboard, during an operation, reportedly was forced to make an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea off the Porbandar coast on Monday night, said officials. As per the Coast Guard, one crew member was recovered and the search for the remaining three crew is in progress.  The Coast Guard said the incident took place while the helicopter was approaching the vessel for the evacuation. The Coast Guard has launched a large-scale search operation, deploying four ships and two aircraft to aid in the efforts. Aircraft wreckage has been located.  “Indian Coast Guard ALH, which saved 67 lives during recent cyclonic weather in Gujarat, was launched around 2300 hrs on 02 Sep 24 for medical evacuation of a seriously injured crew on board Indian flagged motor tanker Hari Leela, about 45 km from Porbandar, in response to a request received from the master of the vessel,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.  “ICG ALH helicopter with 4 aircrews …

MHA constitutes inter-ministerial team to assess damage caused by rains, floods in Gujarat – India TV

Image Source : PTI A flooded area after heavy rainfall in Vadodara Gujarat floods: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted an inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) to assess damages caused by rainfall and floods in Gujarat. The state was hit by heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between August 25 and 30 caused by a deep depression formed over Rajasthan and Gujarat. The team, led by the Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), will shortly visit the flood-affected districts of the state. At least 25 people have died in rain-related incidents across the state since August 25. MHA in touch with  senior officers of affected states Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were also affected by heavy to very heavy rainfall. Multiple spells of heavy rains, cloudbursts and landslides have caused extensive damage in Himachal Pradesh this year. The MHA is in touch with senior officers of these states, and will depute IMCT there as well, if the severe damages are reported by them, the statement said. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs Sunday constituted an inter-ministerial team to assess the damage caused by the heavy downpour and floods in Gujarat, news agency PTI quoted officials as saying. The MHA in a statement said that the Centre was fully committed to providing all possible help to the flood-affected states under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At least 36 people have died in rain-related incidents since August 25 in Gujarat. The MHA is also in touch with senior officers in such states, and will depute central teams for the assessment of the damage, officials said. Heavy and incessant rainfall, especially in central Gujarat districts of Vadodara, Anand and Kheda, as well as Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi and Porbandar in Saurashtra, have led to severe flooding in the state this week. With one more death reported from Jamnagar on Saturday, the death toll in the flash flood caused by heavy rainfall in seven districts of Saurahstra and Kutch climbed to 27. Pakistan proposed the name Cyclone Asna as the storm intensified. Between 1891 and 2023, only three such storms have formed over the Arabian Sea in August with instances recorded in 1976, 1964, and 1944, reported English Jagran. The 1976 storm originated in Odisha, moved west-northwest into the Arabian Sea, circled and eventually weakened near Oman’s coast.
