In the last couple of years, Bollywood has produced a couple of extremely violent films. For instance, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 blockbuster family crime drama Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, and Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s Kill, starring newcomer Lakshya, which released last year. In an interview with Faye D’Souza, Kill co-producer Guneet Monga addressed how the violence in her film is different from that in Animal. Guneet Monga Kapoor couldn’t have asked for a more perfect conclusion to 2024. Just last week, Anuja, a short film for which she is the executive producer, was shortlisted for the 2025 Oscars in the Best Live Action Short Film category. Directed by Adam J Graves, the film sheds light on the grim reality of child labor in New Delhi. In a recent interview, Monga shared that the fundraising was more than the film’s budget, and she is working hard, making calls for funds to ensure the film advances to the next round. Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao’s film Laapataa Ladies (renamed Lost Ladies) did not secure a spot on the Oscars 2025 shortlist for Best International Feature. The list was revealed on December 17, 2024. On the other hand, Guneet Monga’s Anuja advanced in the Live Action Short Film category. Additionally, a UK-based film featuring Indian actors, Santosh, has successfully made it to the shortlist in the Best International Feature film category.  While Laapataa Ladies did not make it to the Oscars 2025 shortlist, Guneet Monga Kapoor‘s Anuja secured a spot in the Live-Action Shorts Film Category. The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles also commonly known as IIFLA  is being held from June 27 to June 30 this year and they recently announced the lineup for the event. The 22nd edition of the internationally acclaimed film festival will be held at Landmark Theatres Sunset in Hollywood.
