Haryana STF nabs Punjab’s wanted accused in ₹250 cr heroin case

The Gurugram unit of the Haryana Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a suspect from Rohtak who was wanted by Punjab Police for the last six months in connection with the seizure of 50.14 kilograms of heroin worth around ₹250 crore in the international market, officials said on Monday. The suspect was traced after his younger brother’s arrest in Bhiwani, where police seized 8.9 kg of heroin allegedly meant for multiple states. According to STF officials, the suspect came under their radar after the arrest of his younger brother from Bhiwani on May 21 with 8.9 kilograms of heroin worth at least ₹40 crore in the international market. The younger brother was allegedly supplying heroin on a large scale across southern Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Gurugram Police have arrested a Bangladeshi man for allegedly sending bomb threats via email to several schools here, officials said on Friday. The accused is intermediate and engaged in digital marketing, and was currently residing at Sripalli Bazar, Govindapalli district, North 24 Parganas in West Bengal. He revealed that the threats were made from Dhaka, and he had created the email ID for sending bomb threats, they added. An unidentified suspect has been booked for impersonating a doctor employed with Medanta – The Medicity hospital in Sector 38 and attempting to dupe people by offering ₹3 crore in exchange for donating a kidney for transplant, police said on Wednesday. Hospital officials said the accused falsely claimed legal organ purchase and demanded money in instalments from the victim. (HT) Officials said the matter surfaced after a woman contacted by the impersonator emailed the hospital directly on January 14. The suspect had shared a forged identity card with a fake employee code to convince the woman that she was associated with the hospital. Following the complaint, hospital superintendent Dr Sanjay Durani registered an FIR at Gurugram Sadar police station on Tuesday against unidentified suspects under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including cheating, impersonation, forgery and harming reputation, along with sections of the Information Technology Act. The Gurugram Police has directed housing societies, landlords, and paying guest (PG) accommodations to submit details of residents from Jammu and Kashmir and foreign nationals living in the district, days after a car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort prompted heightened security in the National Capital Region (NCR). Police said the exercise, applicable to all tenants district-wide, is part of a security verification drive ahead of New Year and Republic Day celebrations.  The drive follows a directive under BNSS Section 163 requiring landlords to keep registers with copies of tenant IDs for security checks. (PTI) Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Vishnu Prasad confirmed that the drive is being conducted under directions from the district administration. “We have been instructed to do this,” Prasad said. “We are inquiring about who has come from where and for how long they have been staying here. Gurugram:  A 31-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly killing his live-in partner six months ago in Uttarakhand, Gurugram police said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Mustaq Ahmed, a native of Uttarakhand, was arrested on Wednesday on the victim’s sister’s complaint lodged recently at Sector 5 police station. He has been sent to a six-day police remand by a local court. The body of the deceased, Pooja (35), was found under a bridge in Uttarakhand’s Nadanna village. According to police, Ahmed had been in a live-in relationship with Pooja, also from Uttarakhand, for two years. They had been residing in Gurugram until the latter half of 2024. The police said Ahmed used to drive a taxi in Uttarakhand and met Pooja, a divorcee, in 2022 when he took her and her mother to a hospital for treatment in his taxi on two or three occasions.
