Tejasvi Surya, incumbent Bengaluru South MP, was among the prominent among the 183 candidates who filed 224 sets of nomination papers on Thursday, April 4. Former Karnataka CM H.D. Kumaraswamy, his brother-in-law and cardiologist C.N. Manjunath also filed their nominations. Mr. Surya had declared that he does not possess any immovable assets. The BJP MP had declared total assets of ₹4.10 crore, which is 31.5% higher than ₹13 lakh that he declared in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Mr. Sury total assets of ₹4.10 crore include investment in mutual funds to the tune of ₹1.99 crore and investment in shares of over ₹1.79 crore. Mr. Surya, an alumnus of Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies and an advocate in the High Court of Karnataka, is the nephew of BJP leader and MLA for Basavanagudi Ravi Subramanya. The Karnataka government has suspended Ijoor police station sub-inspector Syed Tanveer Hussain after protests by lawyers at Ramanagar, Home Minister G Parameshwara told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. He added that the suspension order was issued against the officer who had booked 40 lawyers in connection with a case. A group of lawyers had staged protests against the PSI on Monday and Tuesday, demanding action against him. The lawyers had first protested on February 6 after alleging that a few people had barged into a room where a group of advocates were holding a meeting to file a complaint against fellow advocate Chand Pasha. He had allegedly made derogatory remarks on Facebook against the Varanasi Court judge who had allowed Hindus to worship in the basement of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. Pasha, who is also a leader of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), was arrested for the social media post.
