MUMBAI: A day after 30-year-old Roshan Babu Suvarna was arrested by Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) for allegedly killing 22-year-old Mayank Ramesh Lohar inside a moving suburban local between Malad and Borivali late on Tuesday night, preliminary investigations revealed that Suvarna is reportedly a habitual drinker who confessed to consuming a bottle of rum before his journey home on Tuesday night. A short-tempered man, he was known to pick quarrels with watchmen and auto drivers over petty issues. Police also noted that the kitchen knife he used to stab Lohar multiple times was newly bought. Gold and silver recovered from habitual burglar in Bandlaguda

Officials from the Bandlaguda police with the recovered ornaments. A habitual house burglar, involved in nearly 150 house burglary cases across Hyderabad, was arrested by the Bandlaguda police on Monday in connection with a recent break-in in the city. Gold and silver ornaments worth approximately ₹10 lakh were recovered from him. The accused was identified as Mohammed Saleem, also known as Sunil Shetty, Ibrahim or Setty Saleem, a 52-year-old resident of Ali Nagar, Balapur. The arrest was made while investigating a complaint lodged on September 6 by Shawanaz Mirza of Quba Colony, who reported the theft of gold ornaments and cash from her residence. During ongoing efforts to trace the culprit, police on December 1 apprehended Saleem. He was detained on suspicion due to his extensive criminal history, having been involved in nearly 150 house burglary cases. A suspect sheet has long been maintained against him at Kanchanbagh police station. These include Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Goa, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka and Telangana, among others. While States such as Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have said that the law is practically redundant and not implemented, the Gujarat government has claimed that its law “does not intend to” harass or harm any community and has hence opined against its repeal.
