BTS and others congratulate Han Kang for Nobel Prize win

South Korean author Han Kang has received The Nobel Prize in Literature for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life. Several Korean artists and celebrities, including BTS members, took to social media to congratulate Kang and celebrate her success. Kim Namjoon, the leader of the globally popular boyband BTS took to Instagram to share a post congratulating her. Fellow BTS member Kim Taehyung aka V too, shared the same post on his Instagram story section and wrote in Korean, “Congratulations, I read Human Acts’ while in military.” Han Kang became the first Asian woman to receive this honour. Besides BTS, several Korean celebrities also congratulated her. Singer Hynn (Park Hye-won) shared that she chose this stage name after reading Han’s novel The White Book. South Korean writer Han Kang, was awarded 2024 the Nobel Prize in Literature, “for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.” The prize is awarded by the Swedish Academy and is worth 11 million Swedish crowns ($1.1 million). Han Kang was born in Gwangju, South Korea, in 1970. She comes from a literary background, her father being a reputed novelist. She made her literary debut as a poet by publishing five poems, including “Winter in Seoul”, in the winter issue of Munhak-gwa-sahoe (Literature and Society) in 1993. She began her career as a novelist the next year by winning the 1994 Seoul Shinmun Spring Literary Contest with “Red Anchor”. She published her first short story collection entitled Yeosu (Munji Publishing Company) in 1995. She participated in the University of Iowa International Writing Program for three months in 1998 with support from the Arts Council Korea. Stockholm: The Nobel Prize 2024 in Literature was awarded to South Korean author Han Kang for her “intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life”, the Nobel Committee announced on Thursday. Kang comes from a literary background as her father being a reputed novelist. Alongside her writing, she has also devoted herself to art and music, which is reflected throughout her entire literary production. Han Kang was born in 1970 in the South Korean city of Gwangju before, at the age of nine, moving with her family to Seoul. She began her career in 1993 with the publication of a number of poems in the magazine Literature and Society. Her prose debut came in 1995 with the short story collection followed soon afterwards by several other prose works, both novels and short stories. The 53-year-old author won the International Booker Prize in 2016 for “The Vegetarian,” an unsettling novel in which a woman’s …
