I had won them back: Hardik Pandya looks back at how he got fans to cheer him after T20 World Cup triumph | Cricket News

The beginning of 2024 was not a good one for Hardik Pandya with the allrounder being roundly booed by fans in the Indian Premier League after he was declared the captain of Mumbai Indians in place of Rohit Sharma. But as the year went on, Pandya turned his fortunes around after his match-winning performances in India’s T20 World Cup winning triumph. “They (fans) said, life for me, had come a full circle. They said, from here on, there was no looking back. I had won them (fans) back,” said Pandya in a video posted by the BCCI on social media. Pandya scored 144 runs and took 11 wickets in the global tournament as India reclaimed the T20 World Cup after 2007, ending India’s 13-year long ICC Trophy drought. It has been a mixed week for the Indian stars as the composition of the World Cup-bound remains inconclusive on the T20 World Cup Ladder standings as we head into week 5. Names at the top of The Indian Express’ previous T20 World Cup Ladder standings – Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma – maintain their lead in the bid to catch the plane to the T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean. This is why The Indian Express sports team will run the T20 World Cup Ladder, a daily form tracker of sorts where we try to slip into the shoes of the Indian think tank and try to work out what Team India will look like for the World Cup 2024. T20 World Cup ladder: Hardik Pandya drops out from top 15; Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal soar in week 4 our rankings | Cricket News

India’s top stars continue to stay put at the top of our T20 World Cup Ladder standings as we head into week 4. The Indian Express’ previous T20 World Cup Ladder standings had Mumbai Indians pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah emerging as our pick for the first name the Indian think tank should write on the list to catch the plane to the T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean. Bumrah overhauled skipper Rohit Sharma who holds ground at number two for another week. However, the top 15 is still lacking the cohesiveness of a well-rounded squad with key all-rounders and fast bowlers floundering in their displays. This is why The Indian Express sports team will run the T20 World Cup Ladder, a daily form tracker of sorts where we try to slip into the shoes of the Indian think tank and try to work out what Team India will look like for the World Cup 2024. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India will win T20 World Cup: Jay Shah ends all speculations | Cricket News

BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday seemingly ended the speculation about India’s captaincy conundrum for the T20 World Cup when he said that Rohit Sharma, not Hardik Pandya, will lead India into the tournament in West Indies. “Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy India will win the T20 World Cup in Barbados,” Shah said at the Niranjan Shah Stadium event in Rajkot. With Rohit returning to the T20I fold after the 2022 T20 World Cup debacle in the recent series against Afghanistan, it now all but confirmed from Shah’s words that he’ll be the one leading the team. Pandya had been handling the captaincy duties in the shortest format in Rohit’s absence and had led India in most of the T20I series after the 2022 World Cup. Pandya is currently undergoing rehab for his ankle injury, suffered during the ODI World Cup last year against Bangladesh and will aim to get fit before the latest edition of the Indian Premier League where he will lead the Mumbai Indians after replacing Rohit as captain for the franchise.
