Harmanpreet Kaur becomes first cricketer to play 200 T20Is

Harmanpreet Kaur achieved a landmark no cricketer has achieved before on Sunday, playing her 200th T20I international match. She achieved the milestone as she walked out for the toss for India’s group match against South Africa in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England. Coincidentally, the 37-year-old Indian captain had made her debut in the shortest format of the game way back in June 2009 in the same nation. Kaur was presented with a special jersey with her name and ‘200’ written on the back of it by the Indian coach Amol Mazumdar ahead of the match. Harmanpreet Kaur becomes first India player to feature in 200 T20Is

2 min readUpdated: Jun 21, 2026 08:39 PM IST India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur on Sunday became the first-ever player in men’s or women’s cricket to play 200 T20I matches. Kaur completed the milestone when she played in the T20 World Cup match against South Africa. However, she could only score 24 runs in her milestone match with India reeling at 116/5. India had stuttered to 83 for four with Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia all sent back. Harmanpreet, who made her international debut in March 2009 against Pakistan in the ODI format, played her first T20I in June that year against England at Taunton. She was given a special jersey and a cap with ‘200’ written on them by India head coach Amol Muzumdar and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana during a team huddle before the start of the game. “I think, honestly, it’s been an amazing journey. I never thought I’ll come that far, but I think God has been kind and I’m really thankful to him and to my family, friends, …

Harmanpreet, Fatima skip handshake at toss

4 min readUpdated: Jun 14, 2026 06:48 PM IST India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana did not shake hands at the toss in their Women’s T20 World Cup clash at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday. The captains did not shake hands at the toss for the second straight ICC tournament meeting between the arch-rivals, following a similar instance during the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo last October. India won the toss and opted to bat first. “We will bat first. I think it’s a very good pitch to bat on, so we just thought let’s bat and set a decent total on the board. (Does winning a World Cup give them confidence?) Well, I think we all are very excited. The last World Cup definitely has given us a lot of confidence, and we just want to carry that confidence to this World Cup. (Have you been pleased with the build-up?) Yes, definitely. We have plugged a lot of areas and now it’s only …

After the 50-over World Cup, can India win T20 World Cup? | Cricket News

The 2026 T20 World Cup in England arrives at a fascinating moment for the women’s game. The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur and Ellyse Perry are preparing for their 10th appearances at the tournament. New Zealand’s title-winning trio of Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu are embarking on a farewell campaign. Shabnim Ismail has come out of retirement for one final shot at the trophy that has twice slipped South Africa’s grasp. Yet while the old guard prepares for another run, a new generation is closing in, and whether experience can hold off youth may ultimately define the tournament. Australia remain the benchmark despite entering a period of transition. England have home conditions and a growing belief under Nat Sciver-Brunt and Charlotte Edwards. Defending champions New Zealand arrive with the confidence of proven winners, while South Africa and India believe their moment may finally have arrived. The growing parity in the women’s game raises a fascinating question: will the established powers have one final say, or is a changing of the guard finally underway? Sides …

‘Geared up for T20 WC’ says Harmanpreet as Mann felicitates state’s top sportspersons | Chandigarh News

3 min readChandigarhUpdated: May 26, 2026 02:42 AM IST As Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann felicitated state’s top-performing sportspersons, he himself got a gift — a signed bat from the women’s World Cup winning captain and her two teammates. At the state awards function in Chandigarh on Sunday, women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her teammates Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur, presented the bat to Mann. Mann gave away cash awards amounting to a total of Rs 27.70 crore, including the Maharaja Ranjt Singh awards to 87 players. Who would Harmanpreet, Suryakumar and Shubman Gill trust to bowl and bat in the last over? | Cricket News

Who would Harmanpreet, Suryakumar and Shubman Gill trust to bowl and bat in the last over? | Cricket News

3 min readMar 16, 2026 03:00 PM IST The BCCI awards night on Sunday also offered insights into which bowler or batter do the winning captains of India’s various cricket teams trust. Trust enough, to hand them the ball in the last over defending a score, or send them in to bat hypothetically, in pursuit of a target. For Suryakumar Yadav, who famously handed the ball to Shivam Dube albeit well after New Zealand were blown away, the freshly minted T20 skipper chose his franchise mate, and perhaps the world’s best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. “Taking no credit away from Arshdeep,” he would diligently add. Arshdeep had bowled tight at the death through this WC cycle, but Bumrah is unparalleled. For a batsman? “I’d go with Hardik,” he said picking his IPL captain, as finisher with the bat. Hardik would later tell Harsha Bhogle that the bunch of stars all clumped at Mumbai Indians, him, Surya, Rohit, Bumrah, had been playing for a long time so he was assured of their love and trust. Hardik also …

Alyssa Healy’s fireworks ended Harmanpreet Kaur & Co’s dream at MCG

4 min readUpdated: Mar 8, 2026 04:43 PM IST The timing isn’t too auspicious for Indian cricket fans, but it was on this very day in 2020 when the Women in Blue were thrashed in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final. It was one of the landmark days in women’s cricket history as a packed Melbourne Cricket Ground watched the home team outclassing Harmanpreet Kaur’s side by 85 runs. Alyssa Healy was the star of the show with a 39-ball 75 and by a bizarre coincidence the Australian wicket-keeper batter took the field for her country for the last time on the same day six years later – leading her team to victory in a Test match at Perth against the same team. The final was played just days before the world shut down on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, hence it remained in the fans’ consciousness for a long time with no sport for quite some time. Harmanpreet and co struggle on Day 1 off Test match

Harmanpreet and co struggle on Day 1 off Test match

The Australian seamers dominated the proceedings after opting to field first in the one-off pink ball Test match against India in Perth on Friday. The Indian batters struggled to get going as they were bowled out of 198 in the first innings, early in the third session. Jemimah Rodrigues (52) scored a half-century to top-score for India, while Kashvee Gautam provided some resistance lower down the order with an unbeaten 34 for India. Opener Shafali Verma (35) was the only other Indian batter to cross the 20-run mark as the trio of Annabel Sutherland (4-46), Lucy Hamilton (3-31), and Darcie Brown (2-41) ran through the batting order. Later, the Indians got off to a good start with the ball Sayali Sathgare removed opener Georgia Voll cheaply, while Kranti Gaud prized out Phoebe Litchfield. All rounder Ellyse Perry and skipper Alyssa Healy, who recently retired from One Day Internationals, then provided brief resistance before the latter fell to Sathgare. That was the final wicket India could get on the day, as Annabel Sutherland (20*) and Perry …
