Huge Concern For England Cricket, Qualification For 2027 World Cup Could Be In Doubt. Here’s Why

Huge Concern For England Cricket, Qualification For 2027 World Cup Could Be In Doubt. Here’s Why

England have slipped to eighth place in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings following the annual update last week, raising concerns about their direct qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup, as per Wisden. The rankings update with each match and series played, but annual update reduces the impact of matches older than a year and completely removes results from over three years ago. As a result, England, despite climbing to No. 2 in the Test rankings, dropped to eighth in ODIs. Between May 4, 2024 and May 4, 2025, they managed just three wins in 14 ODIs, giving them a win/loss ratio of 0.272 — better only than Nepal and Bangladesh in that period. This decline could affect their path to the next World Cup. The 2027 edition will feature 14 teams. South Africa and Zimbabwe have already secured their spots as co-hosts. Namibia, another host, won’t get automatic entry because only ICC Full Member hosts get that benefit. Eight other teams will qualify directly through the ODI rankings, excluding the host nations. …

The decision was taken after the England batter pulled out of the competition despite Delhi Capitals buying him for Rs 6.25 crore in the mega auction. According to the BCCI rules, if any player is bought in the auction and then decides to withdraw, he will be banned for two years. Clarke said that he completely understands BCCI’s stance in the matter and said that this will be a precedent for the future. He added that players cannot withdraw just because they did not get their desired price in the auction and withdrawals should be restricted to emergency situations. “What did Harry Brook get bought for? Imagine he’s on a full contract with the ECB and he’s been banned now. Because this is what happens as well. A lot of players go into the auction, they don’t get picked up for the amount …

“BCCI Trying To…”: Harry Brook’s England Teammate Drops Blunt Verdict On 2-Year IPL Ban

England star Harry Brook pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign for the second year in a row, as he made himself unavailable ahead of the start of the 2025 season at the last minute. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allows players to take such decisions due to injury or family-related issues, Brook’s pull-out wasn’t down to any of those factors. Hence, the England star is set to be banned from participating in the IPL for the next two seasons. As the board’s tough stance became a topic of debate, Brook’s England mates Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali shared their honest opinions on the matter. Moeen Ali, who has played for multiple IPL franchises over the years, refused to label BCCI’s stance on the matter ‘harsh’, saying if a player pulls out this way, it messes his whole team up. “It’s not harsh. I kind of agree with it, in a way, because a lot of people do that,” Moeen said in the ‘Beard Before Wicket’ …

“Are The Lights In Lahore Okay?” Sunil Gavaskar Takes Jibe At England Star After Loss To Afghanistan

“Are The Lights In Lahore Okay?” Sunil Gavaskar Takes Jibe At England Star After Loss To Afghanistan

Legendary India cricketer and reputed commentator Sunil Gavaskar has taken a jibe at England batter Harry Brook following England’s exit from the Champions Trophy 2025. England were defeated by Afghanistan by eight runs in a dramatic Group B game, with the 2019 World Cup winners failing to chase down a target of 326. Brook had blamed the smog after getting out during the 2025 T20I series against India, and Gavaskar did not hesitate to take a sarcastic swipe at him after England’s defeat. During the T20I series against India, Brook had complained that the smog in Kolkata was the reason he could not see the ball, using it as an explanation for getting out to spinner Varun Chakaravarthy. Brook got out to spin on all five occasions during the series. In the Champions Trophy game against Afghanistan, Brook once again was outfoxed by spin, with all-rounder Mohammad Nabi picking up his wicket. “I just saw Harry Brook’s dismissal. Are the lights in Lahore ok or not? Because when he played in Kolkata, he …

“Watch This, Haters”: India Vice-Captain Shubman Gill Takes Stunning Diving Catch, Sends Internet On Fire

Team India vice-captain Shubman Gill had an incredible day in the outfield in the second ODI between India and England at Cuttack. Gill took as many as three catches during England’s batting, but the pick of the bunch was a stunning effort to dismiss Harry Brook. Trying to hit a slower ball by Harshit Rana, Brook did not get the perfect timing, sending it high up. However, Gill had to run a fair distance backwards before completing a diving catch, sending the crowd into raptures. The wicket helped break a 66-run partnership between Brook and Joe Root, leaving England at 168/3. It marks the second game in a row that Harshit has benefitted from a superb catch in the outfield. In the first ODI, Harshit picked up the wicket of Ben Duckett after a stunning effort by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Gill’s catch drew plaudits from fans on the internet. “Vice-captain leading by example-this is what top-class fielding looks like!” said one user, on X. “Vice captain on fire,” said another fan. “Haters watch this,” …

Joe Root Returns As England Announce Playing XI For 1st ODI Against India

Joe Root Returns As England Announce Playing XI For 1st ODI Against India

India are all set to take on England in a three-match ODI series, starting February 6 in Nagpur. The visitors have announced their playing XI for the first game that is set to take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. The biggest highlight of the squad is that veteran batter Joe Root has been recalled into the team. It is a long-awaited return for Root, whose last match in the format was at the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Root was not included in England’s T20I squad against India that was held before their upcoming ODI series against the same opponent. Right-handed batter Root last played 50-over cricket in November 2023 against Pakistan at Eden Gardens during the ODI World Cup. His inclusion comes as England looks to stabilise its middle order in spin-friendly conditions ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. England’s white-ball tour of India has been challenging, with Jos Buttler’s men suffering a 1-4 defeat in the T20I series. The loss marked a tough start for head coach Brendon McCullum, …
