Harry Kane Tastes First Title As Champions Bayern Munich Bid Farewell To Thomas Mueller

Harry Kane opened the scoring ahead of lifting his first career silverware as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0, with veteran Thomas Mueller playing his last home game for the club. Bayern officially won the title on Sunday when defending champions Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg, but were presented with the Bundesliga shield in front of their home fans at full-time. Dripping wet after being showered with beer by teammates, Kane said the title win was “an incredible feeling,” and hoped it would be “the first of many”. “It’s been lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice in between, for moments like this — to enjoy it with the team, enjoy it with the fans. I’m loving every minute,” said the England captain. Kane opened the scoring 31 minutes in, heading in a curling Michael Olise shot for his 25th goal of the league campaign. With Bayern lacking their usual energy, Gladbach had several chances to equalise but were let down by poor finishing. Olise tapped in …

Harry Kane’s First League Title Still Not Sealed As Bayern Munich Held To 3-3 Draw By RB Leipzig

Harry Kane’s First League Title Still Not Sealed As Bayern Munich Held To 3-3 Draw By RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich and Harry Kane’s German Bundesliga title party was delayed by at least a day after RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen scored a stoppage-time equaliser in a 3-3 home draw on Saturday. With Kane sitting in the stands due to a yellow card suspension, Bayern fell two down by half-time, Leipzig scoring twice in teaming rain in Saxony through Benjamin Sesko and Lucas Klostermann.  Bayern then scored twice in 46 seconds through Eric Dier and Michael Olise to level things up with just under 30 minutes remaining. Leroy Sane looked to have completed the comeback and clinch the title, hitting an unstoppable shot from the right of goal on the 83rd-minute mark.  But Poulsen, subbed on with 30 minutes to go, chipped the ball over Urbig in the fifth minute of stoppage time to snatch a draw.  The result keeps Bayer Leverkusen’s slim chances of defending their Bundesliga title alive.  Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen play at Freiburg on Sunday and need to win their three remaining games, with Bayern, who have a significant goal …

Bayern Munich Close In On Bundesliga Title With Heidenheim Thumping

Harry Kane scored his 24th league goal of the season as Bayern Munich romped to a 4-0 win at Heidenheim on Saturday, moving the German giants ever closer to the Bundesliga title. Kane joined Konrad Laimer, Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich on the scoresheet. The victory took Bayern nine points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who play at St Pauli on Sunday. “It was a very important step towards the title,” Kimmich told Sky Germany. “We’re now nine points ahead — and Leverkusen have to win. But we’re not really looking at them. We have to win at least two more games to secure the title.” Stung by Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final elimination at Inter Milan, Bayern were ruthless. Kane, still seeking a first team trophy of his career, took the ball on the turn and lashed home with 12 minutes gone.  The England captain, who joined Bayern in the summer of 2023, now has 60 goals in his first 60 Bundesliga games. Seven minutes later, Laimer latched onto a clever Serge Gnabry …

Bayern Munich Survive St. Pauli Scare, Stay On Course For Bundesliga Title Win

Bayern Munich Survive St. Pauli Scare, Stay On Course For Bundesliga Title Win

Leroy Sane spared Bayern Munich’s blushes with two second-half goals on Saturday, as the Bundesliga leaders beat relegation-threatened St. Pauli 3-2 to stay six points clear at the top of the table. Sane settled Bayern’s nerves after an uneasy first half, as Vincent Kompany‘s side struggled once again against weaker opposition. “It was a bit tight at the end, but we are really happy to have got the three points,” Sane told Sky. Having dropped unexpected points against Bochum and Union Berlin in recent weeks, Bayern were under pressure to avoid a third slip after reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen narrowed the gap to three points with a 3-1 win over Bochum on Friday. Sane insisted that pressure was a good thing for Bayern, “because it helps us keep our rhythm when we know we have to win every game”. Yet they looked sluggish against a fearless St. Pauli side who almost took the lead early on when a Jackson Irvine header hit the bar. The visitors handed Bayern the opener on a silver …

Bayern Munich Held At Union Berlin To Leave Title Door Ajar

Bayern Munich Held At Union Berlin To Leave Title Door Ajar

Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw at Union Berlin on Saturday, giving defending champions Bayer Leverkusen an outside chance of dragging themselves back into the Bundesliga title race. Bayern, who also dropped points in a surprise loss at home to Bochum last week, could be just six points ahead if Leverkusen win at Stuttgart on Sunday.  “It was a game of two stories: the performance and the result,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. “I’ve been in football long enough to know this wasn’t a bad performance away from home. “Sometimes when you don’t score it’s not because the strikers don’t put it in, it’s because the defenders and the keepers do a lot of things right.” Bayern had most of the ball but struggled to break through a resolute Union defence.  With few chances in the opening period, Bayern’s best chance came after 51 minutes when Harry Kane drilled a free-kick through the wall but into the palms of Frederik Ronnow.  Leroy Sane put the visitors ahead after 75 minutes when …

Given ‘Absolute Underdogs’ Tag, Bayern Munich Agitated Ahead Of Bayer Leverkusen Champions League Clash

German giants Bayern Munich are irritated by suggestions they are the outsiders in their high-stakes Champions League last 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern host Xabi Alonso‘s defending German champions in Munich on Wednesday, with the return leg the following Tuesday in Leverkusen. With resources and history that dwarf anyone else in Germany, Bayern are almost always the favourites when taking on other German teams, regardless of venue or competition. But pundits and bookmakers alike have tipped Leverkusen to make it through to the quarter finals, raising the ire of the Bavarians, particularly with Munich hosting this year’s final. Since appearing in back-to-back finals in 2012 and 2013, Bayern have only once failed to make it past the last 16 stage in 13 seasons — when they lost to Jurgen Klopp’s eventual champions Liverpool. Bayern powerbroker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who alongside Uli Hoeness grew the club into a European powerhouse, said his team felt slighted and would react. “Everyone has declared Bayer Leverkusen the favourite. I know our team — and it pisses them …

‘Improving’ Harry Kane Hits Brace As Bayern Munich Beat Bremen To Move Nine Clear

‘Improving’ Harry Kane Hits Brace As Bayern Munich Beat Bremen To Move Nine Clear

Harry Kane said he was still “improving” after scoring two penalties as Bayern Munich beat Werder Bremen 3-0 on Friday to go nine points clear of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. There were few chances in the first half but Kane signalled his intent 30 seconds after the break, rattling the crossbar with a shot from outside the box. Kane was key in winning Bayern’s first penalty and breaking Bremen’s stubborn resistance. The England captain tussled with defender Anthony Young and headed a chipped cross unsighted against the Bremen man’s arm, which was slightly extended.  The England captain stepped up and converted the spot kick, sending goalkeeper Michael Zetterer the wrong way.  Leroy Sane tapped in a Konrad Laimer cross from close range for Bayern’s second in the 82nd minute.  In stoppage time, Young was again at fault and penalised for a foul on Jamal Musiala.  Kane stepped up and converted, bringing his penalty streak to 29 in a row for club and country. The former Spurs striker has 21 goals in 19 league games for …

“Takes A Long Time…”: England Captain Harry Kane’s ‘Culture’ Warning To New Boss Thomas Tuchel

“Takes A Long Time…”: England Captain Harry Kane’s ‘Culture’ Warning To New Boss Thomas Tuchel

Harry Kane says England must be careful not to lose the positive team culture they have created as they prepare for their final match before the arrival of new manager Thomas Tuchel. Interim boss Lee Carsley takes charge for the final time on Sunday as the Euro 2024 runners-up look for victory against Ireland that would seal promotion back to the Nations League top tier. It follows an impressive 3-0 win in Greece on Thursday that left England in control of their own destiny in their group. Carsley stepped in following the resignation in July of Gareth Southgate, who led the team to a World Cup semi-final and two European Championship finals. England captain Kane was asked on Saturday whether there was a risk the camaraderie built up during the eight-year Southgate era could be lost under a new manager. “Yes, I think so,” said the Bayern Munich forward. “I think it takes a long time to build, and maybe not so long to lose if you’re not careful. “But I think we’re …

Harry Kane Disappointed By England Nations League Withdrawals

Harry Kane Disappointed By England Nations League Withdrawals

Harry Kane says he is disappointed by the high number of withdrawals from the England squad this week, insisting the national team must come first. The Euro 2024 runners-up head to Greece for Thursday’s must-win Nations League match before a Wembley meeting with Ireland on Sunday. But interim boss Lee Carsley’s final camp, before the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as the new manager, has been hit by an eye-watering eight pull-outs. The situation has frustrated Kane, who will lead the side out at the Olympic Stadium in Athens knowing key players are absent for a match they must win to stand a chance of automatic promotion. Asked if there was one thing former manager Gareth Southgate put in place that senior players need to ensure is not lost, the striker told ITV: “I think the joy to play for England. I think he brought that back. “I think every camp people were excited to come, every camp people wanted to play for England and, yeah, that’s the most important thing. “I think England comes before …

Harry Kane Double Takes Bayern Munich Past Union Berlin, Borussia Dortmund Beat Leipzig

Harry Kane scored twice and set up another as Bayern Munich moved three points clear at the top of the German Bundesliga with a 3-0 home win over Union Berlin on Saturday. The England captain put Bayern ahead from the spot on 15 minutes after Union’s Benedict Hollerbach brought down Michael Olise on the edge of the box. Kane turned provider just before half-time, tapping the ball into Kingsley Coman‘s path, the France forward blasting in over Union goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow.  Kane added another after 51 minutes, eagerly getting to a loose ball inches ahead of teammate Jamal Musiala to complete his brace. Despite two consecutive Champions League losses at Aston Villa and Barcelona, Bayern have now scored 16 without conceding in their past four games against German opposition.  “We’ve not started the Champions League well, so the pressure is on in every Champions League game now,” Kane said.  “I think if we use the confidence that we’ve played the last few games with, we can cause any team a lot of problems.” …
