The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday (March 30, 2026) announced Harshad Parmar, son of former MLA Govind Parmar, as its candidate for the upcoming byelection to the Umreth Assembly constituency in Gujarat. The bypoll has been necessitated following the death ofGovind Parmar, who passed away on March 6 at the age of 72 after a brief illness. He had represented the Umreth seat in Anand district. In a statement, the party’s central leadership confirmed Mr. Harshad Govindbhai Parmar’s candidature, marking his first major electoral contest.
