Shah asks Delhi, Haryana, UP to ensure ecological flow in Yamuna

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday asked Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh to collectively ensure a standard ecological flow in the Yamuna river, which is currently at a low level and affecting the water supply in parts of Delhi. Over the last two weeks, Delhi has faced a water supply crisis due to a lack of raw water for the treatment plants fed by the river. (HT Archive) Environmental flow, or e-flow, refers to the minimum flow of water required in a river to sustain its ecological health. Chairing a review meeting on Yamuna revitalisation in the national capital, Shah urged the governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, along with all concerned ministries, to work towards cleaning the Yamuna not in a fragmented manner, but through an integrated action plan driven by a spirit of teamwork. A groom had hoped to be with his newlywed wife a day after his marriage; however, he ended up behind bars after he was found to be allegedly performing stunts on an SUV while on his way to the wedding venue. Sharma dismissed her petition challenging a March 7 order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court denying her bail, observing that considerations of national security had to be given due weight. The Gurugram unit of the Haryana Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a suspect from Rohtak who was wanted by Punjab Police for the last six months in connection with the seizure of 50.14 kilograms of heroin worth around ₹250 crore in the international market, officials said on Monday. The suspect was traced after his younger brother’s arrest in Bhiwani, where police seized 8.9 kg of heroin allegedly meant for multiple states. (File photo) Officials said the suspect was arrested on May 28 and taken on four-day police remand for detailed interrogation. According to STF officials, the suspect came under their radar after the arrest of his younger brother from Bhiwani on May 21 with 8.9 kilograms of heroin worth at least ₹40 crore in the international market. The younger brother was allegedly supplying heroin on a large scale across southern Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a consultant doctor at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) District Civil Hospital in Kurukshetra, officials said on Sunday. The girl was later moved to the emergency ward after she began bleeding. It was there that she confided in senior doctors about the incident, prompting them to inform the police, officials stated. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar stated that, based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, a case has been registered against the doctor under Sections 10 and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. In response to the seriousness of the situation and the FIR, the Haryana government has terminated the doctor’s services with immediate effect. According to sources, the accused doctor took leave shortly after the incident occurred and has not returned to the hospital since then. …

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced new party presidents in Haryana, Punjab, Tripura and Delhi.  The restructuring of party units in the four states was announced in a notification signed by the BJP national secretary Arun Singh. The new appointments come into force with immediate effect, reported IANS. Harsh Malhotra, the Union Minister of State (Corporate Affairs and Road Transport) in the Modi government, has been appointed as the new party chief in Delhi. A 20-year-old gang rape survivor allegedly killed herself due to persistent blackmail and mental torture in a village in Nuh district, police said on Wednesday.
