Aneesh, Hashika named best athletes

Karnataka was crowned champion as the eventful last day of the 77th National Aquatic Championships ended in Mangaluru. Karnataka won 17 Gold medals, 12 Silver medals, and 4 Bronze medals to clinch the title while Maharashtra was the overall Runner-up with 6 Gold medals, 4 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze medals. Aneesh S Gowda, from Karnataka, was named the Individual Champion from the Men’s category with four gold medals, and Hashika Ramachandra, also from Karnataka, claimed the top spot among Women with three gold and one silver medal. The icing on the cake for Karnataka was the creation of a new record in the Men’s 4x100m Freestyle. Prithvi M, Kartikeyan Nair, Akash Mani, and Srihari Nataraj combined to post 3:28.09 and better Karnataka’s record of 3:28.16 from 2023. While, Unnikrishnan S, Vikkas Prabhakar, Vinayak Vijay, and Anand As from the Services Sports Control Board finished second with 3:28.93. The meet also witnessed Railway Sports Promotion Board’s Shivangi Sarma, Astha Choudhury, Kanya Nayyar, and Avantika Sudhir Chavan break Maharashtra’s existing record of 4:02.24 in the Women’s …

Hashika Ramachandra breaks 13-year-old national record

Hashika Ramachandra smashed the 13-year-old national record in the women’s 400m freestyle event to start the Senior National Aquatic Championships in style on Tuesday at International Aquatic Complex in Yemmekere, Mangaluru. Hashika clocked 4:24.70 in the women’s 400m freestyle to break the previous record held by Richa Mishra (4:25.76). The Men’s 400m saw Karnataka’s Aneesh S Gowda claim the top spot with a time of 3:56.59, coming in second by a fair distance was fellow state-mate Dharshan S, clocking 4:01.39. Dhanush Suresh, from Tamil Nadu, finished first in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke with a timing of 2:18.85. He was followed by Karnataka’s Manikanta L who clocked 2:20.66. In the Women’s 200m Breaststroke Karnataka’s Thanya Shadakshari touched the pads first at 2:40.54 and coming in second was Maharashtra’s Jyoti Bajirao Pati, who clocked 2:42.01. The Men’s 100m Backstroke saw Akash Mani, representing Karnataka, finish first with a time of 56.15, followed by Rishabh Anupam Das from Maharashtra who completed the event in 57.28.
