Asia saw a number of extreme weather events, including flooding, extreme heat, drought and devastating rainfall, with the annual mean temperature in 2025 recorded at 0.96 °C ± 0.08 above the 1991–2020 long period average, the latest ‘State of Climate in Asia report 2025’, released by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) on June 17 has found. Overall, the assessment also found an increase in ocean heat content, which indirectly alters storm tracks. Vidarbha is set to witness a mixed spell of intense heat, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next five days, according to the latest forecast issued on Sunday by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).  The region may see a rise in maximum temperatures by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, followed by largely stable conditions thereafter. Monsoon progress and synoptic situation As per the IMD’s synoptic update, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon continues to advance steadily across central and eastern India, with favourable conditions for further progress into Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, and parts of Chhattisgarh over the next two to three days.  A persistent seasonal trough extending from central Pakistan to Bangladesh across multiple states is also influencing weather conditions over central India. Hospital officials said action has been taken against staff found responsible for lapses in handling the case. The attending doctor has been penalised with a seven-day salary deduction, and three nurses have been docked a day’s salary each. The security in-charge has been suspended, and show-cause notices have been issued to several officials, including the hospital superintendent and a neurosurgeon. The hospital has also imposed a Rs 1-lakh penalty on the agency that manages its housekeeping and security.
