West Asia crisis: Government discusses ways to scale up production of induction heater

Sales of induction cooktops and electric kettles have surged in the wake of cooking gas supply concerns due to the war in West Asia, according to industry players. | Photo Credit: Getty Images/iStockphoto The government on Friday (April 3, 2026) held discussions on measures to encourage companies to ramp up production of induction heaters and compatible utensils amid rising demand for these products due to concerns over LPG availability following the West Asia crisis, an official said. The crisis has disrupted the movement of ships carrying oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over cooking gas supplies and prompting people to rush to buy induction heaters and compatible utensils. The meeting, chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, was attended by senior officials, including Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Lav Agarwal, and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia. “We discussed how we can speed up and increase the production of induction heaters and vessels that go on those heaters …

A natural heater hidden in India’s ‘sacred lotus’ flowers

The ‘sacred lotus’ plant is native to North and Central India and grows in ponds, lakes, and gently flowing waters. | Photo Credit: T. Voekler (CC BY-SA) Thermogenesis is the word for the way living things create their own body heat. While we usually only think of birds and mammals as being warm-blooded, all complex life forms produce some heat. Small power plants in cells, called mitochondria, turn food into a biological fuel, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). But only about one-quarter of the energy from your food actually becomes ATP; the remaining escapes as heat. Sometimes, mitochondria can turn all the energy in sugars into heat. In plants, an enzyme that can do this is even named alternative oxidase. However, only a few plants generate heat for some very clever uses. The ‘sacred lotus’ plant (Nelumbo nucifera)is native to North and Central India and grows in ponds, lakes, and gently flowing waters. Flowering begins in early summers, at mild ambient temperatures. Its pretty flower blooms for three to four days. In this period the internal temperature …

BougeRV water heater review: hot showers to go

BougeRV water heater review: hot showers to go

Hot water is like internet connectivity for most Verge readers: you just expect it to be there. But that’s unlikely to be the case this summer when tent camping at a music festival or road-tripping into the great unknown. That’s where BougeRV’s battery-powered shower comes in. The $310 “Portable Propane Outdoor Camping Water Heater” from BougeRV is not only optimized for search engine discovery, it also delivers a luxurious spray of hot steaming water to the unwashed, be they human, canine, or stubborn pots and pans. Charge up the battery, attach a propane canister, drop the pump into a jug of water, and you’re ready to get sudsing. It’s so useful and flexible that I’ve ditched my plans to install a permanent shower cabin and expensive hot water system inside my adventure van, even if I don’t completely trust it. $310 The Good Battery-powered portability Temperature control Adjustable flow to save water Lots of safety features The Bad Lots of hoses and cables to snag Weak shower head holder No bag to carry all the …

EcoFlow Wave 3 review: a portable air conditioner and heater that’s better in every way

EcoFlow Wave 3 review: a portable air conditioner and heater that’s better in every way

I’ve been testing the EcoFlow Wave 3, a follow-up to the all-in-one battery-powered air conditioner, heater, and fan I reviewed last summer. EcoFlow has dialed back its absurd marketing with a more powerful unit that can be recharged through several methods, including the sun. Only now it can automatically (try to) maintain a set temperature range and act as a dedicated dehumidifier, too. I was grateful to have EcoFlow’s Wave 2 with me last summer while vanlifing around Portugal and Spain. That less powerful A/C helped to offset daytime temps hitting 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degree Fahrenheit) and made 25C (77F) nights comfortable enough to sleep. But it only worked in small spaces and under just the right circumstances. The third-generation portable heat pump from EcoFlow can’t perform miracles. We’re still only talking 6100BTU (1800W) of cooling and 6800BTU (2000W) of heating. And placement is limited by bulky intake and exhaust hoses, and the space needed for a receptacle to collect any drained water. But if you own a van, surf shack, work shed, roof-top …

Gurugram Woman Caught on Camera Beating Security Guard Over ‘Heater’

A police complaint was filed against an elderly woman here after a video purportedly showing her beating a female security guard of her housing society surfaced on social media, police said on Thursday. The video purportedly showed the woman beating the guard with a stick and hurling abuses at her. The row allegedly broke out when she objected to the security guards using a heater and standing around it to warm themselves. The argument flared into violence after she tried to take a picture of the heater and was resisted from doing that by the guards. The incident happened around 3.30 pm Wednesday in Tulip Violet society in Sector 69 near its main gate. The woman, said to be in her 60s, had approached the guard room in her car.
