Lawyers cannot be held liable for ‘deficiency in service’: Andhra Pradesh High Court | Legal News

4 min readNew DelhiJul 8, 2026 12:00 PM IST The Andhra Pradesh High Court recently dismissed a plea alleging deficiency in providing legal services against an advocate, observing that a lawyer’s service is not covered under the Consumer Protection Act. A bench of Justices Ravi Nath Tilhari and Subhendu Samanta upheld orders of the Visakhapatnam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, all of which had rejected the complaint filed by the petitioner against his advocate. “We are of view that the complaint filed by the writ petitioner against the lawyer/advocate under the Consumer Protection Act was not maintainable. The same has rightly been dismissed,” the court held in its order dated June 24. It relied upon the Supreme Court’s ruling in a case where it had held that a complaint alleging deficiency in service against advocates practicing the legal profession would not be maintainable under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Justices Ravi Nath Tilhari and Subhendu Samanta dismissed the plea. Allegations …

Pooja Bhatt’s grandmom held funeral for her amputated leg: ‘What are we doing here?’ | Bollywood News

Pooja Bhatt has shared an unusual family anecdote that perfectly sums up her grandmother Betty Bertha Bright’s eccentric personality. The actor-filmmaker recalled how her grandmother insisted on holding a funeral for her amputated leg, leaving the family stunned. During the conversation, she also revealed that Aashiqui, the 1990 blockbuster, was inspired by her parents’ romance. Speaking on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Pooja described her maternal grandmother as a resilient woman of Armenian and English-Irish heritage who was known for her sharp wit and dark sense of humour. “So, my grandmother, my mother’s mother, Betty Bertha Bright, was half Armenian and half English or Irish. She was as tough as nails. She grew up in Calcutta during the time of the Raj,” Pooja Bhatt recalled. She went on to narrate how diabetes led to her grandmother losing a leg, but even that became an occasion for her trademark black humour. “She developed diabetes later in life, so her leg had to be amputated. When the leg was amputated, she insisted on a funeral for it. So all …

Why CBFC held up film for 4 years, shock OTT release, govt’s ‘anti-India’ claims

After spending nearly four years in limbo, Satluj, previously titled Punjab 95, finally reached audiences last Friday when it quietly premiered on ZEE5. Directed by Honey Trehan and starring Diljit Dosanjh, the film had been locked in a prolonged battle over certification and release. However, the relief proved to be short-lived. Within 48 hours of its release, the film disappeared from the streaming platform following directions from the Government of India. Now, screenwriter Niren Bhatt, who co-wrote the film with Trehan, has spoken about the latest setback, questioning why the film has continued to face obstacles for years without any official explanation. Speaking to Variety India, Bhatt referred to ZEE5’s statement attributing the removal to “current developments” and said it was evident that the decision came from authorities. “Developments surely means they are being asked by someone to pause it. It is clear that someone in power to do so, whether at the CBFC or the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, has stepped in.” He further criticised the absence of any transparency throughout the film’s long …
