Assam police on Friday arrested two active members of the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in an intelligence-based operation in Tinsukia district. ULFA-I, led by Paresh Baruah, is the only faction of the insurgent outfit that has stayed away from peace talks with the Centre and the Assam government. Police identified them as Humenjyoti Baruah (27), alias Siyor Asom, a resident of Panitola, and Papu Moran (30), alias Manoj Asom, of Baghjan. Both are self-styled second lieutenants of ULFA-I. Police on Saturday said that the duo had planned to carry out indiscriminate firing and grenade attacks on civilians in Tinsukia town. Four men, including an Akhara organiser, have been arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain for blowing up a car hung to a crane during Muharram processions, officials said on Thursday (June 25, 2026), adding that the National Security Act (NSA) may be invoked against them. The police have, however, ruled out a communal angle behind the act.  According to officials, the stunt took place on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) night during Muharram processions being held at Shere Adaan locality under Badnagar police station range where a van was hung onto a crane and blown up using firecrackers.  Viral videos show a white van hanging through a crane about 40 feet from the ground which is blown up with firecrackers kept inside it, creating a significant explosion, with attendees chanting and raising religious flags. A message on a paper was also pasted on the windshield of the van which read “Le phir aa gaye (Here they come again)”. DGP Gaurav Yadav said police have seized 10 pistols and other firearms, 5.048 kg of heroin and Rs 30.38 lakh, while also impounding a motorcycle. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based handlers operating through social media platforms.” Police have identified the Afghan man as Jagjit Singh alias Jaggi (40), a native of Jalalabad in Afghanistan and presently residing in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi. The other arrested accused were identified as Jaspreet Singh (21) of Khurmanian, Gopal Sharma (21) of Amritsar, Aniket Sahota (21) of Ram Nagar Colony, Prabhjeet Singh (26) of Gumtala Colony and Rajbir Singh (22) of Maqboolpura, officials said. Fake export call centre racket busted by cyber police, 18 held

The Cyber Police Station of New Delhi District has busted a fake export consultancy call centre, apprehending 18 persons, including the alleged mastermind, for cheating exporters on the pretext of securing overseas buyers and export certifications. According to officials, the racket was exposed during the investigation of multiple NCRP cyber fraud complaints received from different parts of the country. The complainants alleged that they were contacted by individuals posing as representatives of the firm, who promised assistance in obtaining export orders from international buyers. Victims were initially induced to pay a registration or token amount of Rs 5,000. They were subsequently made to transfer additional sums of Rs 19,780 towards export service packages and Rs 41,300 for purported Global GAP/Trust Certification and other export-related formalities. To establish credibility, the accused allegedly used international WhatsApp numbers and impersonated foreign buyers from various countries. Victims were shown fabricated communications and were assured that export orders were in process. A 35-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his friend following an argument over ₹500 while consuming alcohol in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri area, police said on Monday. More than 22 lakh students took the test conducted by the National Testing Agency across 5,440 centres in 551 cities nationwide. In Delhi, the re-test was held at 97 centres with elaborate security arrangements in place. Many candidates said female students underwent double frisking at security checkpoints. “We were even asked to open our hair and undergo a thorough physical check by the security personnel,” said a student who did not wish to be named. The test was held in examination venues across 16 city centres in the State. Nearly 1.28 lakh candidates had registered for the medical entrance examination. The examination was held under stringent security arrangements and candidates were subjected to mandatory checks before entering the examination halls. In accordance with the National Testing Agency (NTA) guidelines, the candidates were prohibited from carrying mobile phones, electronic gadgets, earphones, smart watches, calculators, pen drives, purses, notebooks, cameras and food items into the examination halls. The entry gates were opened at 11.30 a.m. and closed at 1.30 p.m., after which no candidate was permitted to enter. A nationwide mock drill was underway across the country on Saturday ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination as part of the efforts to ensure smooth, secure and transparent conduct of the medical entrance test, officials said. Security has also been tightened at the National Testing Agency (NTA) office in the national capital, they said. The re-examination will be conducted on June 21 from 2 pm to 5.15 pm in the pen-and-paper mode across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad for over 22.79 lakh candidates.
