Manav Thakkar-Manush Shah climb to career high world No 2

A week after they became the highest ranked Indian table tennis players ever at world No 3, the men’s doubles pair of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah climbed to a career high world No 2 in the latest ITTF world rankings on Monday. Thakkar and Shah now have 3390 rating points in the world rankings and trail only China’s Lin Shidong and Huang Youzheng (5160). Thakkar and Shah’s ascend came after the French pairing of Alexis Lebrun and Felix Lebrun fell down by three spots to world No 5 with 2658 points after the latest rankings update. The Indians are now in an uncharted territory for paddlers from the country with the women’s doubles pair of Archana Kamath and Manika Batra at world No 4 back in 2022 being the highest ranked Indians ever until last week. Thakkar and Shah’s haul of 3390 points majorly comes from their semi-final finish at the 2026 Singapore Smash (900) earlier this year. They had also reached the 2026 US Smash quarters recently, bagging another 580 points while their …

Mr. Revanna is accused of sexually harassing a former house help employed at his family’s farmhouse. The complaint also alleged that his son, former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, had sexually harassed the woman, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in April 2024. In an order passed on November 19, 2025 the High Court had upheld the charge of sexual harassment under Section 354A of the IPC against Mr. Revanna but quashed the charge under Section 354. It had also directed the …

4 min readNew DelhiJul 11, 2026 09:56 PM IST Sarvesh Anil Kushare, 31, a father of a two-year-old daughter, has become the first Indian high jumper to finish in the top three on his Diamond League debut. At Monaco on Friday night, he was even provisionally joint first for a while, before finishing third with 2.26 metres. Kushare, who held his nerve in a high-pressure competition, joined an elite list of Indian athletes who have finished in the top three at a Diamond League meet — javelin star Neeraj Chopra, long jumper Sreeshankar Murali and discus thrower Vikas Gowda. Kushare’s journey from Devargaon village in Nashik, where he started with makeshift landing pits made of corn husks and sacks, to the world stage is a story in itself. High Court ruling on Telegram marks tectonic shift in digital law

High Court ruling on Telegram marks tectonic shift in digital law

Recently, the Government of India temporarily blocked Telegram after the messaging app was used to leak questions and organise cheating in a public examination taken by millions of students. Telegram challenged the move in the Delhi High Court. It argued that the law only allowed blocking specific illegal content and did not permit blocking the entire platform used by millions of users. The High Court disagreed, in a ruling that changes how technology companies operating in India should think about the architecture of their apps. This change brings to focus the obligation on platforms to prevent recurring harm. The Court confirmed the government’s long-held position that it had legal authority to block an entire app, not merely specific content published on it. Such a block can be ordered overnight, with the company allowed to argue its case to the government only afterwards. What matters is not the power itself but what it makes possible: A design flaw that once might have been a customer-service headache can now be the reason an app disappears from a …

PIL filed in Punjab and Haryana High Court to restore Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj on ZEE5 | Bollywood News

PIL filed in Punjab and Haryana High Court to restore Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj on ZEE5 | Bollywood News

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking the restoration of Satluj on ZEE5, days after the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer was removed from the streaming platform less than 48 hours after its release. The petition argues that the takedown violated the constitutional guarantee of free speech, questions the absence of any publicly disclosed legal basis for the decision and seeks greater transparency from the authorities. The plea marks the latest development in the growing controversy surrounding Satluj, a film inspired by the life of Sikh human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Since its removal, the film has sparked criticism from members of the film fraternity, Sikh organisations and civil liberties advocates. PIL challenges takedown, cites free speech concerns Speaking about the petition, advocate Hakam Singh said the PIL had been filed by Shravan Singh, a ZEE5 subscriber and a resident of Punjab, in the larger public interest. “The film Sutlej, which was released on the ZEE5 platform on the 3rd, was removed on the 5th. The petitioner has …

Kerala High Court closes contempt petition against K. Sudhakaran after apology in person

The Kerala High Court has closed a contempt of court petition against K. Sudhakaran, MP representing Kannur, after he tendered an apology in person before the court regarding the remarks he had allegedly made about the High Court Bench which quashed a Single Judge’s order for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Youth Congress leader S.P. Shuhaib. The petition was closed on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) by the Division Bench of Justice V. Raja Vijayaraghavan and Justice K.V. Jayakumar. Mr. Sudhakaran had admitted to making derogatory remarks about the Kerala High Court in a public function. In his apology, he said that the comments were made in a “purely momentary and impulsive nature and were not the result of calculated, malicious intent.” The contempt plea filed by lawyer Janardhana Shenoy had alleged that Mr. Sudhakaran’s statements amounted to an “interference with the administration of justice.” According to the petition, the MP had stated that the judgment of the Division Bench “was part of an agenda enacting a screenplay” and the …

Adultery no longer a crime’: Jharkhand High Court reinstates dismissed constable | Legal News

4 min readRanchiJul 8, 2026 02:59 PM IST The Jharkhand High Court has set aside the dismissal of a Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) constable, observing that “adultery is no longer a criminal offence”, while holding that the disciplinary proceedings against him were arbitrary and violative of Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. However, the order relates only to the departmental action against the constable. The criminal proceedings arising out of the FIR will continue independently before the competent court. The case pertains to Bharat Pathak, who joined the JAP as a constable in 2007. In 2023, a woman approached the Commandant of JAP-10 in Ranchi alleging that although both of them were married and had children, Pathak had married her and lived with her from October 2019 to April 2023. She alleged that the constable established a physical relationship with her and later refused to accept it. Claiming her life had been ruined, she sought action against him. Her complaint triggered a preliminary departmental inquiry, while an FIR was separately registered in Ranchi under …

Lawyers cannot be held liable for ‘deficiency in service’: Andhra Pradesh High Court | Legal News

4 min readNew DelhiJul 8, 2026 12:00 PM IST The Andhra Pradesh High Court recently dismissed a plea alleging deficiency in providing legal services against an advocate, observing that a lawyer’s service is not covered under the Consumer Protection Act. A bench of Justices Ravi Nath Tilhari and Subhendu Samanta upheld orders of the Visakhapatnam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, all of which had rejected the complaint filed by the petitioner against his advocate. “We are of view that the complaint filed by the writ petitioner against the lawyer/advocate under the Consumer Protection Act was not maintainable. The same has rightly been dismissed,” the court held in its order dated June 24. It relied upon the Supreme Court’s ruling in a case where it had held that a complaint alleging deficiency in service against advocates practicing the legal profession would not be maintainable under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Justices Ravi Nath Tilhari and Subhendu Samanta dismissed the plea. Allegations …
