The Himachal Pradesh government has announced that an anti-chitta (drug screening) test will be made mandatory for all future government recruitments as part of its intensified campaign against drug abuse and trafficking in the state. It was emphasised that the state government is committed to eliminating the menace of “chitta” (heroin) through a comprehensive strategy. On the occasion, the state government and Himachal Pradesh Police carried out one of their largest coordinated anti-drug operations, scientifically destroying narcotic substances seized under the NDPS Act at 10 locations across the state. The destroyed contraband had an estimated international market value of ₹13.28 crore. The Himachal Pradesh government has announced that Class-IV workers regularised after May 15, 2003, will receive one year of regular service benefit for every five years of daily wage service, for the purpose of pension calculation. HP Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that these employees will have the chance to opt for the Old Pension Scheme. Himachal Pradesh government is preparing to conduct the one of the state’s biggest scholarship examinations – “Mere Shahar Ke 100 Ratan” – in the coming days. This test, scheduled for May 20, aims to identify and reward top performing students of the state. Details about ‘Mere Shahar Ke 100 Ratna’ scholarship exam Nearly 6 lakh students are expected to appear for the state-wide scholarship test, through which top 100 scorers from each of the 68 constituencies will be selected and free coaching will be offered to these toppers. The following 700 top scorers of each constituency will be offered discounts on coaching based on their rank. Besides the top 100 rank holders from each constituency, 75% concession on coaching fee will be offered to the following 200 students, while the next 500 students will be granted 50% concession. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday voluntarily relinquished the subsidy on all five power connections registered in his name. He also said that affluent citizens with multiple electricity connections should relinquish subsidies to support the development of the state. Submitting the required documents to Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board chairman Sanjay Gupta, Sukhu urged the well-off individuals in the state to follow suit by using the online portal of the board, or by calling helpline numbers 1100 or 1912, or by visiting their nearest electricity sub-division. (Representational) Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Tuesday announced the government’s decision to remove gutkha and liquor advertisements from state buses. The decision was taken during the recent Board of Directors (BOD) meeting of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC). Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Deputy CM Agnihotri said HRTC plans to modernise its fleet by replacing nearly 1,000 old buses. This includes the addition of 327 electric buses, 250 small buses, and 100 mini-tempo buses. He also revealed that tenders for 24 Volvo buses had been rejected due to a single bidder, and fresh advertisements would be issued.
