The country’s MMA scene is mired in confusion with multiple federations battling for official recognition and many more either dormant or operating as unverified entities. The absence of a unified governing body has for resulted in a chaotic environment, leaving athletes in the dark about qualification pathways in several continental and global events. The Asian MMA Association (AMMA) will oversee the event in partnership with OCA. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is yet to recognise an official federation. At least three federations have reached out to IOA seeking recognition as the national federation of …

Hinge Introduces AI-Powered Prompt Feedback to Help Users Improve Dating Profiles

Hinge introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature on Wednesday that will enable users of the dating app to build a unique and interesting profile. Dubbed “Prompt Feedback”, the new AI feature shares personalised feedback when a user responds to a suggested text prompt. This is the first AI feature in the Match Group-owned dating app, and is aimed at helping users avoid generic, boring, or cliché responses. Notably, the AI tool is available to all users on the platform and does not require purchasing a subscription. Hinge Launches Platform’s First AI Feature In a press release, the dating app detailed the new AI feature. Citing data from research conducted internally, Hinge claimed that likes on text prompts are 47 percent more likely to result in a date as compared to likes on photos. However, 63 percent of the users on the platform said they struggle to write unique and interesting answers to prompts. The company said that this feedback led to the development of the feature. Notably, Hinge works slightly differently than typical dating …

OpenAI’s Stunning $150 Billion Valuation Said to Hinge on Upending Corporate Structure

OpenAI’s new financing round is expected to come in the form of convertible notes, according to sources with direct knowledge of the matter, who said its $150 billion valuation will be contingent on whether the ChatGPT-maker can upend its corporate structure and remove a profit cap for investors. The details of the conditions of the $6.5 billion funding, which have not been previously reported, show how far OpenAI, the most valuable AI startup in the world, has come from a research-based non-profit, and the structural changes it’s willing to make to attract ever more investment to fund its expensive pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI), or AI that surpasses human intelligence. The outsized funding round has seen strong investor demand and could be finalized in the next two weeks, given the rapid growth of OpenAI’s revenue, sources added. Existing investors such as Thrive Capital, Khosla Ventures, as well as Microsoft are expected to participate. New investors including Nvidia and Apple also plan to invest. Sequoia Capital is also in talks to come back as a …

Big Tech Is Triggering Too Many People, Too Fast

Wake up, babe, Big Tech has run into another problem: advertising their lightning fast innovations to an audience that’s mostly scared by them. This column was supposed to be about the Apple ad from last week, Crush!, and how it triggered the bejeezus out of creators and people online. But in the hours that I spent writing the first draft – amidst other work, because who can sit and write 1,000-word columns for a living in this economy – even more technology advanced, as if to confirm that people’s reactions to Crush! were, well, well-founded.  Really, in just the last two days: OpenAI announced their latest update to ChatGPT, GPT-4o, building on the enthrallment and terror their products have unleashed in the last year and a half. GPT-4o can now communicate with you through not just text, but also audio and video, helping you assess if you’re ready for an interview, tutor you in trigonometry and new languages, sing you lullabies, play rock, paper and scissors with you – basically do whatever a playmate, parent, …

Patents Reveal Apple Could Be Working on Clamshell Foldable With an Interesting Hinge Design: Report

Compared to what other smartphone brands have on offer, Apple seems to be far behind the competition when it comes to foldables. The Cupertino giant has yet to launch or even showcase its first ever foldable device with a folding display while other brands have at least one foldable model in their existing lineup of smartphones. Recent rumours have pointed out that Apple is working on bigger foldable devices, with the latest report pointing towards the development of a foldable MacBook laptop with a 20-inch display. A more recent report pointed out that Apple’s iPhone has been delayed to 2027 and even goes on to claim that Vision Pro staff have now been directed to work on the foldable device instead. Now, an older patent which was filed last year, has been published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), suggesting that Apple is indeed working on clamshell foldable designs. The patent (US 20240147644 A1) was filed in October last year and was published by the USPTO on May 2, 2024. According to a …

How Indian Woman In US Lost Life Savings To Scammer She Met On Hinge

Shreya Datta converted some of her savings into cryptocurrency. Philadelphia, United States: The “wine trader” wooed her online for months with his flirtatious smile and emoji-sprinkled texts. Then he went for the kill, defrauding the Philadelphia-based tech professional out of $450,000 in a cryptocurrency romance scam. The con — which drained Shreya Datta, 37, of her savings and retirement funds while saddling her with debt — involved the use of digitally altered deepfake videos and a script so sophisticated that she felt her “brain was hacked.” The scam is commonly known as “pig butchering,” with victims likened to hogs fattened up by fraudsters with feigned love and affection before the proverbial slaughter — tricking them into a fake crypto investment. The rapid growth of this fraud, thought to be run by crime syndicates in Southeast Asia, has resulted in losses worth billions of dollars in the United States, with victims saying there is little recourse to recover the money. As it has for many victims, Datta’s experience began on a dating app — Hinge, in …

Microsoft’s Next Foldable Device May Not Feature Dual Screen, Could Get 180-Degree Hinge: Report

Microsoft reportedly may have cancelled plans to work on developing a dual-screen foldable Surface device. The company was said to be prototyping and experimenting with hardware for over a year that was believed to be in conjunction with a dual-screen foldable Surface device, tipped to be the Surface Duo 3. The latest report, however, suggests that Microsoft may opt for a more traditional “True” foldable design — with a single screen and 180-degree hinge — for its next foldable Surface device. According to a report by Windowscentral, Microsoft had initially planned to launch the Surface Duo 3, said to be the successor to the Surface Duo 2, as a dual-screen foldable device. The company had reportedly intended to release the Surface Duo 3 towards the end of 2023 with narrower and taller edge-to-edge displays and wireless charging. However, according to the latest report, Microsoft may have cancelled plans to deliver a dual-screen foldable design on its next Surface device. The company had reportedly received mixed reviews over the dual-screen foldable design on the Surface Duo …
