Maharashtra: 600 tribal students leave hostel after girls show unusual behaviour

Authorities in Maharashtra’s Amravati district are grappling with an unusual situation after nearly 600 tribal students left a government-run hostel at a residential school, claiming that some girls there were possessed. The episode began on July 22, when four girls reportedly started behaving strangely, crying and laughing uncontrollably. Officials suspect the behaviour could be linked to mental stress, reported PTI.  The tribal residential school in Doma village of Chikhaldara taluka, located in the tribal-dominated Melghat region of northern Maharashtra, houses 810 boys and girls, officials said on Sunday. Rumours soon spread that the girls were possessed, prompting around 600 students to leave the ‘haunted’ hostel, run by the Tribal Development Department, over a period of several days. According to a hostel source, some of the girls claimed to have heard the sound of anklets clanking. Health experts rule out supernatural cause A senior Tribal Development Department official said a team of health experts visited the Doma residential school to assess the situation. “The symptoms have nothing to do with anything supernatural. It could be a …

Maharaja Hostel movie review: This horror comedy is the worst Malayalam film of 2026 till now | Movie-review News

Maharaja Hostel Movie Review & Rating: What’s the most unfortunate thing about Maharaja Hostel? In my humble opinion, the fact that the makers went ahead with its release even after watching its final cut — I am assuming here that they did — thus attaching this title to their repertoire forever. No matter how high the cast and crew members fly going forward, and the lofty heights they scale in the coming years, Maharaja Hostel will remain a blot on their careers, and sadly, ye daag ache nahi hain. The “horror comedy” revolves around three young adults: Aravind (Akhil NRD), Varkey (Akhil Sha), and Midhun (Sarath Babu), who join an engineering college under the belief that it opens the doors to a world of “fashion, taste, freedom, chicks, and chilling.” In a bid to save money so they can party more often, they get admission at the cheap Maharaja Hostel located outside the campus. One day, a punishment meted out by one of their college seniors leads the trio to an abandoned temple deep in …

8-year-old boy ‘thrashed’ in Bihar hostel, dies, operator denied pre-arrest bail | Legal News

4 min readNew DelhiJul 6, 2026 06:00 PM IST The Patna High Court has refused anticipatory bail to a hostel operator accused in connection with the death of an eight-year-old boy whose father alleged that the child was assaulted by a hostel “sir”, threatened into silence, and later died while undergoing treatment.  Justice Satyavrat Verma found merit in the prosecution’s argument that the delay in filing the FIR could not be viewed in isolation when the child’s father was struggling to save his son’s life.  “After hearing the learned counsel for the parties, the Court is in agreement with the submission made by the learned Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) and is not inclined to extend the privilege of anticipatory bail to the petitioner. Accordingly, the prayer for anticipatory bail of the petitioner is rejected,” the June 30 order read.  The high court was hearing the anticipatory petition filed by one Ravi Kumar Yadav, who was facing charges for the murder of a minor child residing in a hostel in Muzaffarpur, where the accused was running …
