Jaisalmer civic body swings into action, buries hundreds of cattle carcasses after public outrage

In the wake of public outrage over cattle carcasses lying abandoned in a dumping yard, the Municipal Council in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer on Monday started the process of burying them. The civic body has also decided to terminate the bone disposal contractor’s services. Video footage from a landfill on Ramgarh road, 7 km from the district headquarters, circulating on social media showed hundreds of rotting cattle carcasses. This led to an outrage by the residents, while the cow protection groups demanded action. Municipal Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha said the contractor was allotted space at the dumping yard for the disposal of dead animals. “Typically, dead animals collected from the city are dried for a day or two before being buried in pits according to the disposal process. The carcasses had accumulated over several days after the contractor failed to dispose them of properly,” Mr. Sodha said. The civic body’s teams rushed to the site in view of the public anger and deployed earth-moving equipment to dig pits for the burial of carcasses decomposing in the open. While Jaisalmer Collector Anupama Jorwal has sought a report on the incident, the Municipal Council …

Pipeline under repair, heatwave: Hundreds of fish dead in Sanjay Lake as water recedes | Delhi News

As Delhi reeled under its fourth straight day of heatwave conditions, Sanjay Lake in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri on Thursday turned into a fish graveyard – hundreds of fish floated belly-up in shallow green pools, ducks waded through black slush and large stretches of the lake bed lay cracked dry. The deaths came amid rapidly receding water levels at the lake, with officials attributing the situation partly to a critical pipeline supplying treated water from Kondli sewage treatment plant (STP) to the lake developing leakages and remaining under repair. Officials also said the prolonged heatwave may have reduced oxygen levels in already stagnant water. “The ongoing heatwave has only worsened the crisis,” a government official said. The carcasses included small Gambusia or mosquitofish, along with larger tilapia- or carp-like freshwater species. In a written response to The Indian Express, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) said the artificial lake spreads across nearly 187 acres, including a 52.53-acre lake area maintained by it. The lake is also a notified protected forest under the Delhi Forest department. It added …

Why the 101 not out against MI is one of Sanju Samson’s finest hundreds

Synopsis: Sanju Samson’s 101 and Akeal Hosein’s 4/17 help CSK beat MI by 103 runs to claim their third win of IPL 2026. For the first time in 15 seasons, an MI–CSK IPL 2026 clash was marked by the absence of both Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni. It required newer stars to emerge, and Sanju Samson and Akeal Hosein led the way to inflict a fifth loss in seven matches for MI. As Samson made his way into the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, a rush of positive memories may have crossed his mind. This was the venue where, less than two months ago, his blistering 89 off 42 balls had set up India’s T20 World Cup semifinal win over England. If the innings against England was about fearless aggression, then the knock against MI was a blend of caution and calculated attack. His unbeaten 101 runs in 54 balls on Thursday may have had 10 fours and six sixes, but it also had 25 singles as he had to navigate his stay in the middle, …
