Prakash Raj calls TN governor’s behaviour ‘unacceptable’; advocates for Vijay and TVK’s rights amid hung assembly

But before he could celebrate his victory, TN governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar asked him to show majority numbers before forming a government. Prakash Raj, who admits having ideological differences with Vijay, slammed the governor for his behaviour. Prakash Raj stood in stupport of Vijay and TVK despite their idological differences. Hung council poses challenge for LDF in standing committee polls in Kozhikode Corporation

Hung council poses challenge for LDF in standing committee polls in Kozhikode Corporation

With the elections for members of the various standing committees and their chairpersons scheduled within a week, the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the Kozhikode Corporation will have to engage in political manoeuvring to fill these positions. With a hung council, where the LDF has only 35 of the 76 seats—four short of a simple majority—the United Democratic Front (UDF), with 28 seats, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with 13 seats, which form the opposition, will have a major say in the process. Elections to the eight standing committees—Finance, Development, Welfare, Health, Public Works, Town Planning, Tax Appeal, and Education & Sports—are scheduled to be held from January 5 to 7. The selection of members is expected to prove tricky this time, as the LDF cannot have a majority in all the committees and will have to accommodate more members from the UDF and at least one member from the BJP in each committee. While the LDF enjoyed a simple majority and a stronger position in 2010, the situation is murkier this …

Taipei Open badminton: Unnati Hooda enters semi final after overcoming mid-match blip against home challenger Hung Yi-Ting | Badminton News

Unnati Hooda played home challenger Hung Yi-Ting, had a mini meltdown after getting a yellow card for challenging a net-fault, heard the home crowd cheer for the Chinese Taipei player. But in a match that had its troughs and crests, she prevailed in the hugely see-sawing battle 21-8, 19-21, 21-19. Against the 28-year-old Hung, Unnati started with a blitz taking the opener 21-8, and though father and coach Upkar Hooda says she ought to have wrapped up in two sets, the finish didn’t kick in at 16-18 or 18-19 in the second. “Those were one or two bad judgments from her. And though there was drift, and she had dominated first, there were mistakes,” he says. There was a mini meltdown at 19-15 in the decider when the umpire handed her a fault, and it precipitated into a yellow card. “It was a close call and she only asked the umpire why it was a fault, but they pulled a yellow card. You have to accept the umpire’s calls. It came so fast, you can’t …

England’s Alex Hartley with teammates.© AFP Former England spinner turned broadcaster Alex Hartley has claimed that several senior players gave her cold shoulder and Sophie Ecclestone even refused a TV interview with her during the ongoing Women’s Ashes because she criticised fitness standards of a few players after their early exit from T20 World Cup.
