The cybercrime unit registered the FIR on May 15 on a complaint lodged by local lawyer Rinki Chatterjee Singh. Singh, in her complaint to the police station, alleged that the TMC supremo insulted the religious sentiments of Hindus by calling Sanatan Dharma “ganda dharma” (dirty dharma). The lawyer also alleged that while campaigning for elections, she said that if a particular community attacked Hindus, “their 12 ta beje jabe,” implying that Hindus would face severe consequences. “Such remarks created fear among members of the Hindu community and promoted social unrest, religious provocation, and communal disharmony with the intention of influencing voters through fear and intimidation,” the complaint read. India’s tea industry captains, feeling the pinch due to the West Asia conflict, on Thursday (May 21, 2026) observed one of the gloomiest International Tea Days since it became a calendar event in 2005. According to the Indian Tea Association (ITA), the largest tea planters’ body in the country, the West Asia crisis has affected exports to countries around the Gulf of Persia and the Gulf of Oman. About 87% of India’s total tea exports are concentrated in 21 countries across Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and West Asia. Iran, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt account for 46% of the exports. The conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran began in February. Even as the row over the title of Manoj Bajpayee‘s upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat’s title has erupted, the film’s makers have now received a notice from a film body alleging that they cannot use the title as it is not registered. Film Makers Combine (FMC), a Mumbai-based organisation, has written to the film’s production house, also asking Netflix for restraint in the use of the title.
