Abhay Singh wins the Hyder Trophy title after a stellar run in New York

India’s top-ranked men’s squash player, Abhay Singh, capped off a dominant week at the Hyder Trophy 2025 in New York by lifting the PSA Challenger Tour title with a hard-fought 3-1 win over England’s Sam Todd in the final on Sunday. Abhay, seeded first in the $12,000 event, defeated World No. 99 Todd 11-8, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7 in a gripping contest that lasted over 50 minutes. Both players showed great skill and determination, but it was the 25-year-old from Chennai who edged ahead in the key moments to secure the win. Earlier in the semifinals, Abhay delivered a clinical performance to beat third seed and reigning U23 world champion Noor Zaman of Pakistan in straight games — 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 — to storm into the final. Abhay Singh storms into Hyder Trophy final after stunning win over U23 World Champion

India’s top men’s squash player, Abhay Singh, has reached the final of The Hyder Trophy 2025, a $12,000 PSA Challenger Tour event being held in New York, following a commanding victory over Pakistan’s Noor Zaman. Abhay, the top seed, defeated third seed and reigning U23 world champion Zaman in straight sets 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-8) to book his place in the title clash. He will face England’s Sam Todd in the final. The 25-year-old has been in exceptional form throughout the tournament. He opened his campaign with a dominant 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-4) win over Egypt’s Ziad Ibrahim, the eighth seed, and then overcame Malaysia’s Yee Xian Siow 3-1 (11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7) in the quarterfinals. Abhay’s surge in form has been evident since March this year when he climbed five spots to break into the top 50 of the PSA world rankings for the first time in his career. New York-based Lucknowite Saim Hyder is on a mission to create an anthology of which he has shot for the first one in the US, second in his hometown and the last one he is all geared up to shoot abroad again. Saim Hyder On his visit to the state capital, the actor-producer says, “I have completed Inferno Paradiso in the US before pandemic, and it did rounds at different film festivals as well. In June 2022 I shot Karonda Keema in Lucknow in which I played the lead along with actors from Delhi and hometown. National Award-winning music director Bishakh Jyoti has given the score.
