Tension prevailed outside a private school in Hyderabad’s Sayeedabad on Wednesday as BJP leaders, party workers and parents staged a protest over allegations that a teacher assigned religious homework to Class 2 students. Police intervened to maintain law and order and detained several protesters during the demonstration. The protesters demanded strict action against the school management, including the cancellation of the institution’s recognition, the arrest of the principal and suspension of teachers allegedly involved. BJP leader Andela Sriramulu Yadav, who was detained during the protest, questioned the alleged assignment given to students and accused the school of promoting religious teachings. He also made political allegations against AIMIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi, claiming they were attempting to disturb the city’s communal atmosphere. Another BJP leader and advocate, Karuna Sagar, who also reached the school during the protest, criticised the police for not registering an FIR.
