When monsoon clogs Hyderabad’s tech heart

When monsoon clogs Hyderabad’s tech heart

When M. Aditya stepped out of his office in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, around 8 p.m. on Tuesday (June 9, 2026), the rain had already stopped. But so had the city. Outside, the roads were slick with rainwater, traffic stood frozen, and a sea of red taillights stretched into the distance. His commute back home to ECIL, Nagaram, which ordinarily takes about 50minutes, turned into a three-and-a-half-hour ordeal of failed cab bookings, long walks to the nearest Metro station, packed trains and gridlocked roads. By the time he reached home, it was well past 11:30 p.m. “It was a nightmare. Just a few minutes of rain brought the entire traffic system to its knees,” he recalls. Aditya’s experience was not exceptional. Across Cyberabad, photos and videos captured a city at a standstill beneath the gleaming glass towers of multinational corporations and luxury residential complexes. According to police estimates, more than three lakh vehicles were caught in the traffic gridlock that paralysed large parts of Hyderabad’s western corridor. Stretched bumper to bumper, they would have covered roughly 824 …

Bid to clean up a rotten trail in Hyderabad’s thriving food scene

Business resumed at the Jiyaguda slaughterhouse in Hyderabad, which was recently sealed over hygiene and compliance issues and later reopened following protests by traders and intervention by a legislator. | Photo Credit: Nagara Gopal Thak, thak, thak. The first thing that hits you is the sound. The early-morning summer sunlight slants into the hunks of meat as Rahul lifts a three-pound iron cleaver and brings it down with practised precision, reducing ‘medium’ cuts into ‘small’ ones at the slaughterhouse in Hyderabad’s Jiyaguda. Around him, life unfolds in familiar chaos. Men and women in gumboots and rubber slippers sip chai, rinse their hands, sort meat. Buyers haggle, cleaners scrub, traders shout instructions. Some move about in clothes stained with blood and flesh, unfazed, immersed in routine. I’m bowling basically every third day at the moment. We’ve mapped out a plan to get me right by middle of the tournament, so hopefully, if nothing goes wrong, I’ll play the back half plus the finals,” Cummins said in the Business of Sport podcast. Tracing Hyderabad’s centuries-old Persian connections

Tracing Hyderabad’s centuries-old Persian connections

Charminar, a centuries-old iconic structure in Hyderabad, was designed by Iranian emigre Mir Momin Astrabadi. | Photo Credit: Serish Nanisetti On March 1, as the news of the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei spread in the Darulshifa area of Hyderabad, an impromptu gathering of people assembled within hours, wailing and expressing grief for the departed leader. “He was our rahbar, our spiritual leader, and that’s why so many people are sad,” said one of the mourners. Beyond the individual grief, the location of the protest meeting, beginning at the dargah of Ibne Khatoon to its final convergence point near Darulshifa harked back to the time when Iran and India had cultural and social ties that appeared inseparable. “The Indian and Iranian civilisations resemble each other. Hinduism and Iranians have the same Aryan roots. The political turmoil before the 16th century, before the Safavid-era led to the migration of a lot of Iranians who fled to Europe and to India,” says Mubashir Ali Khan. Ibne Khatoon, Mir Momin, Reza Ali Khan, as well as the …
