The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved a major reshuffle at the Secretary level of bureaucracy, transferring and posting more than a dozen Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across key central government ministries and departments. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released a notification on Wednesday, announcing 933 vacancies for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2026. However, the guidelines governing eligibility restrict candidates already appointed or selected as IAS or IFS officers. Giving no second chance to candidates already appointed as IAS or IFS officers on their previous examination, the Commission bars candidates from eligibility in CSE 2026. A similar rule is in place for those “selected or appointed” to the Indian Police Service (IPS), which implies that they will not be eligible for CSE 2026. The UPSC laid down strict rules, imposing restrictions on IAS or IFS officers’ reattempt. The circular dated 4 February states, “A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) based on the results of an earlier Examination and continues to be a member of that Service will not be eligible to appear at the Civil Services Examination-2026.” If a candidate gets appointed to the post of IAS or IFS after …

IAS officers meet CM: Bhagwant Mann asks CS to check if vigilance took prior sanction

Chandigarh Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday directed chief secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua to check whether the prior sanction was taken by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) from the state government before booking IAS officer Neelima and other officials for allowing the bifurcation of an industrial plot and submit his report within 24 hours. Mann gave the direction to the chief secretary after more than 50 IAS officers along with office bearers of the Punjab IAS Officers Association met him at his office in the civil secretariat to register their protest against the registration of the FIR against Neelima, a 2008 batch IAS officer, and others without following due procedure.
