Mohammad Nawaz Handed Three-Month Ban for ICC Anti-Doping Code Breach

The Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been handed a three-month ban for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code after testing positive for a prohibited substance during the men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year. The International Council confirmed that Nawaz has tested positive for Carboxy-THC, classified as a substance of Abuse under Anti-doping code, following Pakistan’s 2026 T20 World Cup fixture against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 07. He scored 15 runs and took seven wicket during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 tournament. “Pakistan spin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has accepted three months of ineligibility (which will be reduced to one month on completion of a substance abuse treatment programme) for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code,” said an ICC statement. “Subject to Nawaz completing a substance  abuse rehabilitation programme to the ICC’s satisfaction, Nawaz will not be required to serve the remainder of the three months of ineligibility,” the ICC statement mentioned. ICC announces major revamp of ODI and T20 World Cup formats

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a comprehensive overhaul of its men’s global tournament structure, introducing new formats for the men’s ODI World Cup and men’s T20 World Cup to make every match more competitive and meaningful. The decisions, taken at the ICC Board’s annual meetings in Edinburgh, also include a revised qualification pathway for the 2028 T20 World Cup and the endorsement of a proposed 16-team global tournament for associate member nations. World Cup revamp While the 50-over World Cup will continue to feature 14 teams, the tournament will adopt a new three-stage competition format intended to ensure meaningful contests from the opening match through to the final. “The Board approved an evolved competition format for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup that continues to feature 14 participating teams while delivering a more compelling tournament for athletes and fans,” an ICC press release said.
