IRCTC sets new records in online ticket booking, blocks 3 crore suspicious IDs in 2025-26

New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) intensified its anti-fraud and cybersecurity initiatives during the year to ensure genuine passengers receive fair access to ticket bookings and to curb misuse of the system. IRCTC booked an average of 14.53 lakh tickets per day during 2025-26. (PTI) As part of these efforts, IRCTC informed that the corporation deactivated 3.03 crore suspicious user IDs in 2025. It also intercepted substantial volumes of malicious online traffic on a regular basis, helping safeguard the integrity of the ticketing system. In its official data, IRCTC said that in coordination with law enforcement agencies, 501 complaints were lodged on the National Cyber Crime Portal pertaining to 4.18 lakh suspicious PNRs. Additionally, 6.05 crore suspicious user IDs were placed under revalidation to verify their authenticity and prevent misuse. IRCTC also took action against fraudulent digital identities by blocking 13,343 suspicious email domains during the year. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against athlete Sachin Poswal for allegedly forging identity documents to evade a four-year doping ban and continue competing in domestic athletics events. According to the FIR filed by the CBI’s Special Crime-II unit in Delhi, Poswal is accused of deceiving the Athletics Federation of India by creating multiple unique athlete identification numbers (UIDs) using fake and forged Aadhaar cards along with false personal credentials. The agency alleges that these fabricated identities enabled him to participate in competitions despite being under suspension. The FIR states that Poswal managed to generate three separate UIDs and competed in three different athletics events during the ban period. Based on the complaint lodged by a CBI inspector, the agency has registered a regular case under Sections 318, 336 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which relate to cheating, forgery and using forged documents as genuine. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against athlete Sachin Poswal, who deceived the Athletics Federation of India by generating different unique athlete IDs using fake Aadhaar cards and false credentials to evade a four-year doping ban imposed on him. After opening a preliminary enquiry against him in November, the central agency has filed an FIR on Friday under the three sections acting on the complaint by Inspector Jitendra Kumar. “A complaint of Sh. Jitendra Kumar, Inspector has been received wherein it is alleged that an athlete Mr. Sachin Poswal deceived Athletics Federation of India by generating different UIDs on the strength of fake / forged Aadhar Cards and false credentials. Based on these UIDs, Mr. Sachin Poswal participated in various sports events of athletics. OTP for Tatkal booking live in 322 trains; 3 cr fake IDs deactivated: Vaishnaw

Aadhaar-based OTP verification for online Tatkal ticket booking is now active in 322 trains, helping curb misuse and improve fairness in the system, the Parliament was informed on Thursday, reported the IANS. According to the government, the introduction of the verification method has increased the availability window for confirmed Tatkal tickets by around 65 per cent in these trains. Aadhaar OTP verification for Tatkal bookings at reservation counters is also being implemented in phases and is currently operational in 211 trains as of 4 December. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha in a written reply that, because of this measure, confirmed Tatkal ticket availability time has risen in nearly 95 per cent of the 96 most popular trains, according to the IANS. The minister further said that strict revalidation and verification of user accounts had been carried out. Since January 2025, approximately 3.02 crore suspicious user IDs have been deactivated. Truecaller on Monday released a new feature which is aimed at aiding users in filtering out authentic messages in an inbox increasingly filled with spam texts. Dubbed Message IDs, it leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to scan the SMS inbox and identify messages like, but not limited to, OTPs, delivery updates, ticket booking status, and more, from verified businesses. As per Truecaller, these messages are displayed with a green check mark in the inbox. Message IDs on Truecaller Truecaller says it has introduced Message IDs in India and 30 other countries. This feature leverages AI and large language models (LLMs) to carry out on-device scanning of the SMS inbox to identify important business messages. The company emphasises that the user data stays safe due to on-device processing. Message IDs on Truecaller are not limited to Premium subscribers but available for all. It is introduced with support for several global and Indian languages including English, Hindi, Swahili, and Spanish.
