Danish Pandor says this Eid is special due to the ‘Dhurandhar-mahotsav’ as Dhurandhar The Revenge releases

This Eid-ul-Fitr may seem quite different from last year’s for Danish Pandor due to the success of Dhurandhar The Revenge, but he insists that the gratitude in his heart remains the same. The actor says, “The gratitude has always been there irrespective of the success as that is just a part of the journey. I was grateful even last year, I’m extremely grateful this year and I will continue to be so in the future,” he says. Danish Pandor (Photo: Satish Bate/HT) Eid and the month of Ramzan hold a special place in Danish Pandor’s heart and he keeps all the rozas and follows the traditions of the month. “The beautiful month of Ramzan, it’s more about self-control, detoxifying yourself and your entire body, and at the same time, trying to resist worldly desires. How women’s quiet labour is central to to the iftar table

How women’s quiet labour is central to to the iftar table

The Hidden Labour of Women The Ramadan table, for many, is closely linked to childhood memories — fruit chaat, pakoras, and glasses of Rooh Afza before sunset, tied to evenings spent waiting for adhan. For the women I spoke to, those memories often begin in the kitchen, watching their mothers prepare iftar and gradually becoming part of the ritual themselves. Yusra Husain, 34, an independent journalist now based in Mumbai, recalls her childhood Ramadans in Lucknow. “My sisters and I would watch our parents fast and argue over who would keep a fast first. As we grew older, we began helping our mother prepare iftar. A dastarkhwan would be laid out and the whole family would sit together to break the fast — it was probably the only time we all ate together.” Certain dishes defined those Ramadan evenings, particularly her mother’s pakodis and aloo ke kachalu. Gulbar, 32, recalls the Ramadan table from her childhood in Kuwait, warm and familiar, and replete with pakoras, dry chana dal and fruit chaat. Yet the warmth of these …

3 min readHyderabadMar 18, 2026 09:40 PM IST A year after his first iftar gathering in Chennai spiraled into a police complaint and a national controversy, TVK president Vijay chose a very different approach this Ramzan. On Wednesday evening, the actor-turned-politician attended a special iftar gathering in Mamallapuram, and by design, it was nothing like what came before. The event, scheduled from 6 pm to 9 pm at a hotel in Mamallapuram, was strictly invitation-only, capped at 1,000 guests selected from across Tamil Nadu. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam made it explicitly clear that no on-the-spot entry would be permitted under any circumstances. It was a sharp contrast to the 2025 Chennai gathering, which drew around 3,000 people to the YMCA Grounds in Royapettah and ended with a police complaint alleging that the event was disorganised and that the presence of people unconnected to Ramzan had insulted the Muslim community. TVK clarified that the gathering had been organised with prior permission from the Election Commission, in view of the ongoing election period and the Model Code …
