Pawar’s last rites were held with full state honours on January 29 at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati, where his sons lit the funeral pyre and conducted the final rituals. One killed in violence during Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich 

One person was killed and at least four others were injured on Sunday (October 13, 2024) after a clash erupted between two groups of people hailing from different communities during Durga idol immersion procession in Mahasi under Hardi police station limits in Bahraich district. The deceased person was identified as Ram Gopal, 22, while injured are identified as Sudhakar Tiwari 22, Ranjan, 31, Divyang Satyawan 42 and Akhilesh Bajpai 52. The incident happened when stones were pelted and gunshots fired at the procession with some miscreants disconnecting the microphone of the procession. Heavy police force is deployed in the area with senior district officials also stationed. Two constables of the local intelligence unit (LIU) were attacked allegedly by a group of intoxicated people involved in a dispute at a tea stall during the Ganesh idol immersion festivities at Gokul Barrage, police said on Wednesday. Seven of the attackers were apprehended at the scene by police who responded to the incident. A search is underway for additional suspects, they said. Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey said, “Head constable Sumit Singh and constable Gaurav Kumar who were monitoring the immersion event, were dressed in plain clothes and witnessed the altercation.” “Their efforts to mediate were met with aggression from the intoxicated group, leading to a physical assault. Dry day in Hyderabad during Ganesh idols immersion

The City Police officials issued an advisory stating that all wine, toddy shops, and bars selling alcohol in Hyderabad and Secunderabad will remain closed on September 17 and 18. The orders were passed by City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand in view of the final immersion of Ganesh idols. The closure will be in effect from 6 a.m. on September 17 to 6 p.m. on September 18. The order, issued under Section 20 of the Telangana Excise Act, 1968, aims to maintain public peace and tranquillity during the immersion festivities. Bars attached to restaurants will also be closed, with the exception of those located in star hotels and registered clubs. The Station House Officers (SHOs) and Additional Inspectors of the Law and Order police stations in Hyderabad have been authorised to initiate legal action against those who violate the notification, the order read.
