Health Ministry proposes 12-month minimum shelf life for imported drugs

The Union Health Ministry has published a draft notification proposing amendments to the drugs rules under which imported drugs should have a minimum residual shelf life of 12 months at the time of import. The step would ensure that patients receive medicines with adequate usable shelf life and improve utilisation of pharmaceutical inventories across the supply chain. The draft amendment published for public consultation vide gazette notification on June 22 proposes to revise the existing requirement of a minimum residual shelf life of more than 60 per cent for imported drugs to a minimum residual shelf life of 12 months at the time of import. However, in view of their specialised nature and public health considerations, the existing requirement of a minimum residual shelf life of more than 60 per cent shall continue to apply to biological products and radiopharmaceuticals. The proposed amendment seeks to facilitate greater efficiency in the pharmaceutical supply chain while maintaining the availability of quality medicines for patients, the ministry said. By ensuring that imported drugs have a minimum remaining shelf …

ICC T20 World Cup: Chepauk using chemical imported from United States to deal with dew factor in India-Zimbabwe fixture | Cricket News

4 min readChennaiUpdated: Feb 25, 2026 08:49 PM IST A new chemical bought from the United States called ‘Dew Cure” will be put to use in the India vs Zimbabwe fixture at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to deal with the moisture on the field in the evening. With the temperatures in the city rising over the week, dew had emerged as a potential factor at the venue where India face a must-win situation. However, that may not be the case on Thursday. When the Chepauk outfield was relaid ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association had imported the chemical, which is used extensively at Major League Baseball venues. As part of the preparations to make the ground ready for the fixture, the groundstaff sprayed ‘Dew Cure’, mixed with water, on the outfield on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. The plan is to spray it on Thursday afternoon as well so that it takes full effect by the time the match begins. “Once Dew Cure is sprayed, it ensures that there is …

Tariff war Is China main culprit United States to slap 104 per cent tariff on all goods imported from China aaj ki baat

In 2014, when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, questions were raised about China’s unfair trade practices. ‘Make in India’ mission was launched and China was challenged in the area of manufacturing. But most of the countries of the world remained silent. The United States has decided to slap an unprecedented 104 per cent tariff on all goods imported from China after President Donald Trump’s 24-hour ultimatum to China to withdraw its retaliatory 34 per cent tariff on US goods ended. Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, wrote, “China also wants to make a deal, badly, but they don’t know how to get it started. We are waiting for their call.” On Wednesday, China’s top leaders met to decide on measures as the trade war with the US escalated. The question is: Who is responsible for this? China has called on other countries to join hands to fight this tariff war with the US and force America to follow WTO (World Trade Organization) rules. But is Trump solely responsible? The roots …

Trump says he will impose a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles

Trump says he will impose a 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles

During a briefing on Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced plans to put a 25 percent tariff on cars and trucks imported into the US. Trump said the taxes would go into effect on April 2nd — the same time he’s expected to introduce a round of reciprocal tariffs, according to The New York Times. The tariffs, which Trump called “permanent,” would also apply to American companies that manufacture vehicles in other countries and then bring them into the US. Trump said the tariffs would result in “tremendous growth in the auto industry,” though they’re expected to drive up prices for consumers. As pointed out by Axios, a 2024 analysis from the US International Trade Commission found that a 25 percent tariff on cars shipped to the US could reduce imports by 74 percent, while the average vehicle price could increase by five percent. Trump’s tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico have already gone into effect, affecting a wide range of products like clothing, food, lithium batteries, and more. The April 2nd tariffs are expected to …

Trump says he’ll put tariffs on imported chips ‘in the near future’

Without going into detail about what might happen to the $52 billion in subsidies from the CHIPS Act under his administration, Donald Trump said tariffs on foreign computer chips, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals are coming “in the near future.” He also namechecked DeepSeek’s AI releases, saying, “…coming up with a faster method of AI and less expensive, that’s good. I view that as a positive if it is fact and it is true, and nobody knows, but I view that as a positive.” In the speech at the House GOP Issues Conference held at the Trump National Doral Resort in Miami Monday afternoon, he said that to return the production of these goods to the US, “we don’t want to give them billions of dollars like this ridiculous program Biden has.” Instead the incentive for manufacturers will be “they will not want to pay a tax.” Bloomberg reports that later, in comments to reports, Trump said he wanted a tariff rate “much bigger” than 2.5 percent. This is despite the outcome of the trade war with …

India’s reliance on imported oil, natural gas grows as stagnant domestic production lags demand growth | Business News

India’s reliance on imported crude oil and natural gas grew further in the first half of the current financial year as the delta between consumption growth and the more or less stagnant domestic production continued to widen. The country’s oil import dependency in April-September (H1) was 88.2 per cent, up from 87.6 per cent in the year-ago period and 87.8 per cent for the full financial year 2023-24 (FY24), per latest data from the oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC). Import dependency in the case of natural gas was 51.5 per cent in the first six months of FY25, up from 46.8 per cent a year ago and 47.1 per cent for the full FY24. India’s energy demand has been rising rapidly, leading to higher oil and gas imports. Reliance on imported oil has been growing continuously over the past few years, except in FY21, when demand was suppressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The country’s oil import dependency stood at 87.8 per cent in FY24, 87.4 per cent in FY23, 85.5 per …

A ban imposed on the sale of imported items in Canteen Stores Department outlets (army canteens), which sell goods at subsidised rates to soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families, four years ago has spurred the Make in India initiative, with several firms now producing their wares in the country, officials aware of the matter said on Sunday. The sale of 431 directly imported items in CSD outlets across the country was stopped in October 2020. (Representative file photo) The sale of 431 directly imported items in CSD outlets across the country was stopped in October 2020 after the defence ministry passed an order to support the “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” (self-reliant India movement), said one of the officials cited above on the condition of anonymity. “This has had a positive effect as many firms shifted their manufacturing to India. As a result, 255 of the 421 items that were banned have been reintroduced in CSD,” said a second official, who also asked not to be named. The CSD’s catalogue includes various products like cars, two-wheelers, liquor, white …
