The Bill, passed in the Lok Sabha on Monday (August 5, 2026), is a Money Bill, and the Upper House returned it to the Lower House after a discussion. The Bill increases the number of Supreme Court judges to 37 from the present strength of 34. The Bill replaces an Ordinance issued by the government in May. Opposition members questioned the “hurry” for bringing the Ordinance. “Why was this not brought as an Act straight to Parliament, have a debate and then amend it? Who would oppose? Nobody is opposing that judges should not be increased. But is it enough? Is it radical enough to change the situation in the country? Are 95,000 cases going to be decided because of these four judges?” asked …

Google Confirms Pixel 11 Price Increase As RAM Costs Force Higher Phone Prices

Google blames a global memory crunch for upcoming Pixel 11 price increases. Google says soaring memory prices will force it to raise prices across the Pixel 11 lineup, marking one of the clearest acknowledgments yet of how AI-driven hardware demand is affecting consumer smartphones. Speaking to 9to5Google, Google’s Vice President of Devices and Services, Shakil Barkat, said the company has absorbed higher component costs for as long as it could, but the economics have changed dramatically. Barkat described the situation as a “severe, supplier-driven RAM memory crisis,” adding that “there’s never been an increase in memory prices like the world’s going through right now.” He cited Morgan Stanley data showing the cost of 1 GB of RAM climbed from $2.80 in 2025 to $12 this year. According to Barkat, Google had “shielded our consumers from supply fluctuations for as long as possible,” but acknowledged that “the economics have fundamentally shifted and we’re not immune to that.” As a result, Google said the entire Pixel family, including the upcoming Pixel 11 series and Pixel Watch lineup, …

The Supreme Court on Thursday voiced concern over the introduction of a third language in Std XI under the CBSE curriculum, observing it would increase the stress level of students. “Union of India please don’t have a third language from Std XI level. It would unnecessarily increase the stress level of students. If you want to introduce a new language, then please do it at Std V or Std VI level. Std XI is full of stress,” Justice Nagarathna told the counsel, appearing for the Centre, and asked her to convey the feeling of the court to the government.  Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. On Tuesday night, senior NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil met Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, in the presence of NCP leaders Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare, fuelling rumours that efforts to reunite the two outfits were gaining pace. “The new delimitation bill has not yet …

Heatwaves and ozone together increase India’s cardiac deaths: study

File | Photo Credit: The Hindu While surface ozone — a pollutant harmful to the heart and lungs — already exceeds safe limits across much of India in the hot pre-monsoon months, a new study finds that heatwaves push it to still higher levels, thus adding several hundred deaths to a far larger toll that the study links to ozone across the season. The peer-reviewed study, published in the Nature Portfolio journal npj Clean Air on June 12, reports that surface ozone reaches 85-110 micrograms per cubic metre (μg/m³) in northern India during heatwaves and exceeds the World Health Organization guideline of 70 μg/m³ in every region of the country. The levels fall back within three to four days of a heatwave ending. Because ozone levels stay high for much of the season, the study attributes a large number of deaths to it even outside heatwaves.
