Cool to see New Zealand youngsters experience the noise when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma walk out: Jamieson

The first ODI between India and New Zealand was the first men’s international match to be played in Vadodara since December 2010. In the intervening years, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma went from being young players trying to break into the Indian team, to being two of the biggest stars in the side and then legends in the twlight of their careers. It was pretty clear that a majority of the crowd at the BCA Stadium on Sunday primarily came to watch Kohli and Rohit bat and while it didn’t quite come together for the latter, the former put on a show. New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, who has shared a dressing room with Kohli at RCB, said that it was nice to see some of the younger players in his team experience the noise when Rohit and later Kohli walked out. “Everyone’s trying to help each other and I’ve been fortunate to come to this country a few times and to experience everything that comes with playing cricket in this country,” Jamieson told …

Ashwin flags ‘lack of continuity’ for Arshdeep Singh after 1st ODI snub | Cricket News

India chose to leave out fast bowler Arshdeep Singh in the first ODI against New Zealand and former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin doesn’t seem to be too impressed by the decision. In two posts on X, Ashwin said that if he was rested, he shouldn’t have been in the squad at all like Jasprit Bumrah and that the lack of continuity won’t help Arshdeep. It has to be noted that Ashwin never explicitly named Arshdeep in his posts on X. “Where-is-deep Singh? That’s all #INDvsNZ,” said Ashwin. When a user pointed out that Arshdeep is in the Indian squad for T20 World Cup, Ashwin replied: “Resting someone shouldn’t be after he gets in the squad. Resting means he gets rested like Bumrah. The lack of continuity can impact rythm and hence performance.” India went with a pace battery of Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna. Siraj was the standout for India, while Rana made the difference in the middle overs in which he broke a 117-run opening stand between Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls. Rana …

The 26-year-old, however, has not let them define him as he exemplified it clearly during the pre-match press conference. Story continues below this ad Similarly, returning from an injury setback is vice-captain Shreyas Iyer who will also hope to reiterate his importance in the set-up during the series. However, undeniably a lot of the spotlight will still remain on the heavyweights, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who finished 2025 as India’s two-highest run-scorers in the format. …

With skipper Shubman Gill and vice captain Shreyas Iyer recovering from injuries, the top 5 of the Indian lineup is set. Coming lower down the order, the hosts might give a chance to Nitish Kumar Reddy, a player who hasn’t played for them since the 2nd ODI match vs Australia in October of last year. Rishabh Pant would be a decent shout too but it looked like the Indian keeper suffered a knock during training which might work against him. India face New Zealand in the first of a three-match ODI series in Vadodara. Veterans like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to action and could be seen in India colours for the last time till July this year, with this being the team’s last ODI series before the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League (IPL). It will also be Shubman Gill’s first series since he was dropped from the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, with the 25-year-old returning as captian of the ODI side. Both Kohli and Rohit spent nearly one-and-a-half hours against Indian pacers in the nets on the eve of the match, spinners and throw down specialists after playing two matches each in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Having struck 77 and 131 in the two matches of the premier domestic competition, Kohli went hard against the Indian spinners and pacers alike. Some variable bounce against the throw down specialists in one of the nets did challenge the batting superstar further. However, India’s middle-order mainstay Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh …
