India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak

3 min readUpdated: Jun 8, 2026 05:59 PM IST Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for being the youngest male cricketer to have played for India. If the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi plays in India’s upcoming tours of Ireland and England, he will break it, with Tendulkar being aged 16 years and 205 days when he made his debut for India in a Test against Pakistan in 1989. India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has said that he is excited for Sooryavanshi’s arrival in the Indian team and explained what the coaches’s approach will be towards the talented teenager. “See, as a batting coach or any coach, it’s always a challenge because at this level the players have their own thinking, their own style, their own way they have succeeded. And then, you try to add something, it always takes time, it always takes the trust for them to believe. And for me, it is so important how much you want to add and when you want to add,” Kotak told reporters after …

Munaf Patel: Show me one person who can stop Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma; that person is Gautam Gambhir | Cricket News

3 min readApr 15, 2026 04:56 PM IST Munaf Patel has a warning for Indian cricket. “Yaad rakh lena — agar Gautam Gambhir jaisa head coach hat gaya na, toh player ko handle karna mushkil ho jaega.” [Remember this — if a head coach like Gautam Gambhir leaves, handling the players will become very difficult.] The former India pacer said this on Bombay Sport Exchange, TOI Sports’ YouTube show. His reasoning is straightforward. At this level of Indian cricket, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the dressing room, coaching is almost beside the point. Every top player has his own trainer, his own support staff, his own world. “Ye level pe kya hi coaching kar loge? Aapko manage karna hi sabse important hai.” [At this level, what coaching can you really do? Managing people is the most important thing.] And man-management at this level, Munaf argues, is not easy. “Virat Kohli ko ek cheez na karke dikha de koi banda. Rohit Sharma ko ek cheez na karke dikha de koi.” [Show me one person …

We are allowed one mess-up, and we did it on grand scale: Ryan ten Doeschate on India’s stunning T20 World Cup Super 8s loss | Cricket News

5 min readFeb 23, 2026 10:36 AM IST Defending champions India’s defeat to South Africa was so wholesome that whichever it’s looked at, there are campaign-ending flaws. It was a game where India’s skills, planning, execution and tactics backfired. India’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate was scathing in his assessment of the defeat. “When you set up or set out to win a World Cup, we don’t expect someone to come and deliver the World Cup to you halfway through the competition,” he said. One bad day was bound to come, he said, while leaving them with little wriggle room but to win the next two games. “We understand we are probably allowed to mess up one game in this phase of the competition. We’ve messed up on a grand scale and now the onus is on this group of guys to turn around and put in two solid performances against Zimbabwe and West Indies. It’s going to need two big performances and a big bounce back from everyone involved,” he said. Tactically, India erred …

‘Made my life a lot easier’: Gautam Gambhir on Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy | Cricket News

2 min readFeb 9, 2026 01:51 PM IST India won the 2024 T20 World Cup and since then, they have only affirmed their status as world champions in the format by going on a dominant run in the series that they have played since. Suryakumar Yadav was their captain throughout this period and while his batting form took a hit, it hardly mattered to the team as the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson filled in for him in the big-hitting department. India head coach Gautam Gambhir has now said that while Suryakumar’s sheer ability with the bat makes him a natural leader, the latter’s ability to handle the players is what makes him a great captain. “He is a phenomenal leader of men, not by what he does on the field. The kind of batter he is, the kind of shots he can play, all that for me is to one side. The way he relates with the players, talks to them and spends time with them, how relaxed he is …

Hockey: Former India coach Michael Nobbs passes away

Former Indian men’s hockey coach Michael Nobbs passed away after a long battle with cancer on Thursday. The 72-year-old Nobbs is survived by his daughter Kaitlin Nobbs – an Australian hockey star, and wife Lee Caps, a former international hockey player for the Hockeyroos. “Hockey Australia extends its deepest condolences to Michael’s family, friends, former teammates, players and all those whose lives and careers were shaped by his contribution to hockey,” said Hockey Australia in a statement. “He will be remembered as a proud Kookaburra, a respected professional, and a servant of the sport,” they further added. Nobbs was appointed as the Indian national coach in 2011 after the team failed to qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He helped the men in blue qualify for the 2012 London Olympics, where they finished last. Nobbs represented Australia 76 times in a six-year period between 1979 and 1985. He was also a part of the Australian team in the 1981 FIH World Cup and the 1984 LA Olympics. Disclaimer: We do not own any of …

‘No need for now but nothing wrong with it’: Harbhajan Singh on split coaching for India | Cricket News

‘No need for now but nothing wrong with it’: Harbhajan Singh on split coaching for India | Cricket News

India’s rather contrasting results in white-ball and red-ball cricket since Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach has led to some suggesting that it might be time for the team to consider having different coaches for the formats. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was also a long time teammate of Gambhir with the national team, feels that there doesn’t seem to be a need for India to switch to the model for now but they should consider it if the need arises later. “It is not that easy to become a coach of India. To be a coach, you have to travel with the team for a whole year and keep yourself involved in the game. You have to be more engaged because there are multiple team selections, and you also need to focus on match results,” said Harbhajan on ANI. Harbhajan said that whether the coaching responsibilities need to be split or not might be dictated by future results. “In India, it is our tradition that if the team plays well, everyone is …

Eye on Junior Hockey World Cup, Sreejesh plots to blend Indian flair with tactical adaptability | Hockey News

As a player, PR Sreejesh never stopped smiling, and shouting instructions at his teammates on the field. Now as the junior India coach, he is as animated from the sidelines and remains fun-loving. But for the goalkeeping great, the challenge is to maintain a balance. “I am strict with them. This age of 18, 19 and 20 is very dangerous. They are like a monkey mind and keep jumping here and there,” Sreejesh chuckles. “Sometimes, they are not bothered about what is required and will focus more on shopping or going out rather than resting. So, when the session happens, I demand their best. They can come and ask me anything. I show them the fun side also but when it comes to hockey, I am serious.” Sreejesh was talking to The Indian Express on the sidelines of the centenary celebrations of Indian Hockey. Dinesh Karthik: ‘Is Gautam Gambhir happy with his current set of players?’ | Cricket News

“I think, when it comes to Gautam Gambhir, you got to cut him some slack a little bit because I think he has come in at a very tough time. Post a successful regime of Rahul Dravid, it’s never easy to fill those shoes,” Karthik told Cricbuzz. Karthik lauded Gambhir for his role in making India’s T20 side stronger but admitted Test cricket has been hard for the coach. “He has found success, an immense success in T20 cricket, where he’s had a lot of young boys. He’s been able to have, I would dare say, a massive influence over them. But in Test cricket, he has had the going very hard. “Yes, the Bangladesh series was a success and I think post that, things have just gone downhill for him,” he said.
