How Indian Army athletes powered India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign
India finished fourth in the medal standings at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a total of 39 medals; 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. While athletes from across the country contributed to India’s success, one group stood out throughout the Games, athletes representing the Indian Army. Army athletes accounted for 16 of India’s 39 medals, making them one of the biggest contributors to the country’s campaign. Their biggest impact came in boxing, where India won 10 medals, eight of them through Army boxers. Most are part of the Army’s Mission Olympic Programme, which provides elite athletes with world-class coaching, training facilities and support.
