‘Someone who lost to the world No. 500’: After Davis Cup loss to India, bitter feud erupts in Dutch tennis | Tennis News

2 min readFeb 14, 2026 04:54 PM IST The 3-2 win over the Netherlands in the Davis Cup Qualifiers may have been one of the greatest moments for India in their tennis history but for the Dutch, it seems to have exposed some fissures between the players themselves. The Netherlands had travelled to India without their top two players Tallon Griekspoor and Botic Van de Zandschulp. Griekspoor had been vocally critical about the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association (KNLTB) and had refused to join the Netherlands team for the tie. Jesper De Jong, who led the team in the absence of Griekspoor and Van de Zandschulp and lost the decisive singles tie to Dhakshineswar Suresh, said on the sidelines of the ongoing Rotterdam 500 event that Griekspoor had “embarassed” the country. “You read that we played with a weakened team. I felt it was disrespectful. You shouldn’t embarrass your country,” he said. “I don’t speak to Tallon anyway. If someone treats his teammates like that, I don’t need to give them a hug.” De Jong …

Ramkumar Ramanathan recovers in time against Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi as India take 2-0 lead against Pakistan | Tennis News

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, one of Pakistan’s most accomplished tennis players, may now be 43 years old, and may not even be placed on the singles rankings of the ATP Tour, but he found himself seven points away from creating a huge upset. But India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan clutched up on serve and return to save himself from the blushes and overturn a one-set deficit against Qureshi, prevailing 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 6-0 in the opening singles rubber of the Davis Cup World Group 1 playoff tie between India and Pakistan in Islamabad on Saturday. N Sriram Balaji, a relatively inexperienced singles player in the past few years, followed up Ramkumar’s win by defeating 44-year-old veteran Aqeel Khan 7-5, 6-3 to give India an imposing 2-0 lead in the tie heading into the second day. India were the favourites on both experience and ranking – even without their two top-ranked players Sumit Nagal and Sasikumar Mukund – and it was Ramkumar’s ability to hold his own on grass courts that was supposed to give the side the edge. …

‘We are well looked after’, says Indian Davis Cup manager on landing in Pakistan | Tennis News

For the first time in 60 years, an Indian tennis team has travelled to Pakistan to play a Davis Cup tie. The 10-member contingent, including the five players, support staff and coaches, landed in Islamabad for the World Group 1 playoff tie, to be held between February 3-4, on Sunday to a warm reception despite the All India Tennis Association’s (AITA) attempts to have the tie moved to a neutral venue. “I can say we are all well looked after,” Anil Dhupar, secretary general of AITA, told The Indian Express over the phone from Islamabad. “Having been here 24 hours, I can say all is well. From the reception at the airport from the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) to the three-hour-long practice the players had today, the hospitality has been great.” The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and PTF have ensured to follow the security arrangements approved by the ITF and have granted the team the security cover usually reserved for heads of state. Security personnel at Islamabad Sports Complex ahead of the Davis Cup 2024 …

Pakistan High Commission issues visas to Indian team for upcoming Davis Cup tie | Tennis News

The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi announced via a release on Sunday that it has issued visas for Indian players and support staff for the upcoming Davis Cup World Group 1 playoff tie to be held on the grass courts of Islamabad on February 3-4. The All India Tennis Association (AITA) had initially seen an appeal to have the tie in a neutral venue rejected by an International Tennis Federation tribunal. The most recent tie between the two countries in 2019 had been held in Kazakhstan. Following the rejection of their appeal, AITA began the process of seeking permission from the sports ministry to travel to Pakistan, where Indian teams, outside of some exceptions, have usually refrained from visiting due to bilateral tensions. This will be the first time that an Indian team will travel to Pakistan for a Davis Cup tie since 1964. While clarity was yet to be received on whether the Indian government will grant permission for the team to travel, the News International newspaper had reported last week that preparations …
