India’s 51-year wait for FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup semi-final continues

India’s wait for a place in the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup semi-finals will extend to 51 years after they suffered a 3-5 defeat against Argentina in their crucial second-round match in Amstelveen on Monday. India needed a victory by at least two goals to remain in contention for the last four, but Argentina took control early and never allowed the Indian side to build enough momentum. Joaquin Toscani opened the scoring in the first minute before Nicolas della Torre doubled Argentina’s advantage in the sixth. Tomas Domene added another in the 33rd minute to put Argentina 3-0 ahead. Sukhjeet Singh pulled one back for India a minute later, but Domene struck again in the 45th minute to restore Argentina’s three-goal cushion. Toscani completed his brace in the 53rd minute to make it 5-1. India reduced the deficit through Sukhjeet in the 58th minute before Hardik Singh converted a penalty stroke with four minutes remaining. However, the late goals were not enough to prevent India’s exit from the semi-final race. The result means India will …

Hockey India announced a 24-member women’s squad for the upcoming tour of Argentina, scheduled from 13 to 17 April 2026 in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. The four-match exposure tour against Argentina will be a crucial testing ground for the women in blue ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup later this year. Salima Tete will continue to lead the Indian team with Sjoerd Marijne as the head coach. Deepika, the star forward, marks a return to the team after a long injury lay-off. She had even missed the FIH Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at home in Hyderabad last month. In Deepika’s absence, players like Navneet Kaur, Manisha Chauhan, Udita, and Annu had stepped up admirably to help India qualify. With her return adding depth and experience, the squad looks more balanced. Also returning to the setup is veteran goalkeeper Savita Punia, who had also skipped the World Cup Qualifiers. Bichu Devi, who took on the role of first choice goalkeeper in her absence, also features in the squad. Defender Jyoti and forward Mumtaz …

India v/s Argentina – Updates, Results, Scores, Blog

12 Feb 2026 8:21 PM IST This is terrible, terrible from India. A complete break down in communication between Nilam Xess and skipper Harmanpreet Singh. A back pass from Xess and its a loose ball, piercing through the Indian defensive line. Harmanpreet is slow to react to rush back. Lucio Mendez senses and opportunity and rushes ahead. There’s no one to mark him. Goalkeeper Pawan is in two minds, whether he should press forward to cut the angle or stay back. In the confusion, he is stuck in the middle. Mendez just casually puts the ball past him into the net. INDIA HAVE LOST THE PLOT COMPLETELY. HORRENDOUS! FIH Pro League hockey: Sreejesh sensational, forwards find scoring touch in four-goal thriller against Argentina | Hockey News

The Indian men’s hockey team’s return to FIH Pro League action on Wednesday in Antwerp was a case of one thing we knew well about them and another where a lot of improvement is expected. There is no doubting the legacy of PR Sreejesh in Indian hockey, but the 36-year-old offered another reminder that he is not just here by reputation, but on the weight of his performances. On the other hand, there has been a lot of scrutiny of the team’s ability to score field goals in big matches and not just depend on drag flicks. The 2-2 draw in regulation against Argentina showcased Sreejesh at his very best. He then stepped up to make crucial interventions in the shootout as well, which India edged 5-4 to earn a bonus point. It might be expected brilliance, but it is brilliance nevertheless that needs to be appreciated as Sreejesh keeps enhancing his reputation as India’s No. 1 goalkeeper. 📸Thrilling moments from the India vs Argentina Men’s game in the #FIHProLeague 2024 today. #HockeyIndia #IndiaKaGame #IndiaMensTeam….@FIH_Hockey …
