Seven rescued, search operation underway

Seven people were rescued alive after nearly six hours of operations following the collapse of a garbage mound at the Moshi dumping ground in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Wednesday. The rain-triggered collapse buried the administrative building of a Waste-to-Energy project, with rescue operations continuing into the evening. The incident occurred around 1.30 pm when a huge section of the old landfill crashed onto the three-storey building adjacent to the dump. Nearly 20 people were inside the building at the time. A rescue operation was immediately launched by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, Pimpri-Chinchwad fire department, police, ambulances, and other emergency agencies. Floods, landslides disrupt normal life; rescue operations underway

Heavy monsoon rain triggered floods, landslides, and widespread disruption across Pune district on Monday.  Rivers overflowed, roads and highways were submerged, bridges were closed, and transport services were severely disrupted, prompting large-scale rescue operations across the district. The worst tragedy was reported from Patan village in Maval taluka, where a rain-triggered landslide buried a house at the foothills of Visapur Fort. Rescue teams recovered three bodies from the debris while searches continued for any remaining victims. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local administration, and disaster response teams remained at the site. Maharashtra heatwave alert: IMD issues red alert for Vidarbha

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a red alert for Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region till May 28 amid intensifying heatwave conditions. A yellow alert for thundershowers and gusty winds has also been issued for May 30. According to the IMD, rainfall activity remained isolated with negligible intensity across Vidarbha over the last 24 hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures continued to remain significantly above normal across the region. Brahmapuri recorded the highest maximum temperature at 47.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Nagpur at 46.5 degrees Celsius. Washim registered the lowest minimum temperature at 27.4 degrees Celsius. Several districts affected by heatwave Districts including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Brahmapuri, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur and Wardha are currently experiencing heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said conditions are becoming favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 16. Low-pressure area persists over Bay of Bengal According to the IMD’s latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal continues to persist over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, indicating strengthening weather activity over eastern coastal regions. Rain and thunderstorms likely across northwest India The weather department has forecast scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall along with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–50 kmph over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on May 15 and 16. IMD warns of above-normal heatwave days across India in May

Several regions across India are expected to witness above-normal heatwave days in May, according to the latest monthly outlook issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
