A special court in Gujarat’s Bhuj city on Friday sentenced six Pakistani nationals to 20 years in prison for smuggling heroin valued at ₹384 crore into India. A case was registered against the accused at ATS police station under the NDPS Act. (X/@narcoticsbureau/ Representational) The accused were apprehended from a Pakistani fishing boat off Gujarat coast in December 2021 in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad. Holding the six men guilty, Judge V A Buddha of the special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act court said they were involved in a serious crime of targeting India’s youth and pushing them into drug addiction. The accused were identified as Mohammad Wagher (31), Dadhansh Wagher (24), Sagar Wagher (23), Ismail Barala (75), Mohammad Kungra (24) and Ashfaq Wagher (26), all residents of Karachi. Drug addiction is a national problem and can directly affect the nation’s internal security, the judgement stated. An Indian Coast Guard vessel, Anagh, rendezvoused with a Vietnam-flagged ship, MS Solis, off the Tamil Nadu coast early on Sunday (March 8, 2026) and evacuated nine Indian fishers rescued from the sea by the merchant vessel’s crew following a collision on Saturday (March 7, 2026).  The Coast Guard vessel docked at the Vizhinjam harbour in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Emergency responders rushed the rescued fishers to the Government Medical College for critical care.  According to police, at least two of the fishers had sustained serious injuries in the mid-sea collision.  According to the Kerala police, the fishing boat St Joseph had set out to sea from Shakthikulangara Harbour in Kollam late on Friday (March 6, 2026). The syndicate had devised a sophisticated modus operandi to smuggle large quantities of low-cost oil and oil-based cargo sourced from conflict-ridden regions, according to a Coast Guard release. The cargo was transferred mid-sea to motor tankers in international waters, allowing the operators to evade customs duties owed to coastal states, including India. The racket was allegedly run through a network of handlers operating from multiple countries, coordinating the sale and transfer of oil cargo between seagoing vessels.
