PR Sreejesh questions Hockey India’s preference for a foreign coach

PR Sreejesh questions Hockey India’s preference for a foreign coach

Two-time Olympic bronze medalist PR Sreejesh took to social media on Wednesday to question Hockey India’s preference for a foreign coach for the Indian junior men’s hockey team. Sreejesh was appointed as the junior team’s head coach in August 2024, immediately after the leading goalkeeper announced retirement after winning a bronze at the Paris Olympics. His term has now come to an end. “It seems like my coaching career comes to an end after 1.5 years, during which we played 5 tournaments and secured 5 podium finishes, including a Junior World Cup bronze medal,” PR Sreejesh wrote on social media on Wednesday. “I have heard about coaches getting fired after bad performances. But this is the first time I am experiencing being removed to make way for a foreign coach,” he added. Under him, Team India secured a historic podium finish at the 2025 FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup. The team was trailing 0-2 and came back to win 4-2 against Argentina in the bronze medal match. “The Hockey India President stated that the …

The Indian men’s team came from behind to beat Slovakia 3-2, while the women’s team survived a scare to edge past Ukraine 3-2 and remained unbeaten in the tournament. But then the world no.51 Margaryta Pesotska showed her quality and won both her singles matches, first against Yashaswini Ghorpade and then Manika. Eventually, India came out on top as Divya Chitale in the third singles against Veronika and Yashaswini in her reverse singles match against Tetyana claimed a win. Meanwhile, Indian men’s team had a poor start to the tie as Manush Shah conceded the opening match to world no.98 Lubomir Pistej in a close five-game affair. Ramit Tandon on passion, pressure and the Olympic dream

For over a decade, Ramit Tandon has been among the leading faces of Indian squash, navigating the relentless grind of the professional circuit while remaining part of a generation that has steadily strengthened India’s presence on the global stage. But for Tandon, the journey in the sport has always been rooted in something far simpler than rankings or medals: passion. “At the end of the day, we all play sport because it’s a big passion,” he told The Bridge. “It’s something I do out of my own will. I love doing it, and I don’t need added motivation because I enjoy it so much. I want to be as good as I can be at it.” That passion, however, does not make the ups and downs any easier. Injuries, illness and fluctuations in form are inevitable parts of a professional athlete’s life, something Tandon experienced firsthand after an injury earlier this year during a tournament in Texas. For the 33-year-old, the challenge lies in maintaining perspective during those difficult periods. “Anything that you’re so attached …
