Gurugram rains: Offices, schools advised to work from home on Aug 25

Authorities in Gurugram have advised corporate offices, government and private schools, and other institutions to encourage their employees and staff to work from home on August 25 following heavy rainfall and concerns over waterlogging and traffic congestion, reported the ANI. The advisory was issued by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gurugram, on Monday. Gurugram received heavy rainfall on August 24, with several areas reporting waterlogging. The district administration said further disruption could affect traffic movement and lead to congestion on roads. In view of the situation, offices and educational institutions have been advised to allow their employees and staff to work from home on Tuesday. Advisory aims to ease traffic The administration said the work-from-home measure is intended to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and ease traffic congestion. It will also allow civic agencies to carry out repair and maintenance work on roads and drains more efficiently without facing additional traffic pressure. The Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday warned that parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience a cold wave from November 9 to 11. During this time, the temperature will dip 2-5 degrees Celsius below normal at night. IMD said night temperatures will fall below normal by about 2-4 degrees Celsius over south Haryana and isolated plains of northwest India.(Hindustan Times) The cold wave is expected to sweep across Northwest and adjoining Central India over the next week. According to the forecast by the Meteorological Department, cold wave conditions will prevail in isolated areas of East Rajasthan on November 9 and over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand from November 9 to 11. It has issued a yellow alert for 12 districts, excluding Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.  The weather system catalysing the monsoon over Kerala will likely intensify in the next 48 hours. The IMD is reportedly poised to declare the onset of the monsoon, with rainfall intensifying.  Rough seas  The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information (INCOIS) has issued a special alert for Kerala’s coastal districts. It has warned of choppy seas and tidal surges.  It has predicted waves reaching a height of up to 3.2 metres in Kozhikode and Kannur coastal localities.
