Indian Open golf: Defending champion Nakajima blazes through front nine to take joint lead with Chacarra; Indians fall away | Golf News

With the halfway cut score standing as high as six-over par, the joint-highest it has ever been since the Hero Indian Open moved to the DLF Golf and Country Club course in Gurugram in 2017, two days of unforgiving golf have proven that the low scores this tricky course saw at this event last year were likely an exception, not the new norm. But defending champion Keita Nakajima proved that his blend of aggression and control that was so successful last year was no exception. The 24-year-old from Japan rebounded from an off day that saw him tied-67th on Thursday after shooting a two-over 74 to take the joint-clubhouse lead, alongside Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra, after a sensational round of golf on Friday. There was no shortage of highlight reel-worthy moments from the young Japanese. Back-to-back birdies were made on the third and fourth hole with a 40-foot putt and an excellent chip out of the rough. On the par four ninth hole, Nakajima’s all-round prowess was laid bare after a massive tee shot, an expert …

Peerless Nakajima wins Indian Open, Veer finishes second

A gentle fist pump and doff of cap was all Keita Nakajima let out in terms of emotions as he holed the bogey putt on the 18th to complete his maiden DP World Tour triumph, as the young Japanese sealed victory at the Hero Indian Open here by four shots on Sunday. Keita Nakajima in action(X/Indian Open) His dominant show across four rounds ended in some meltdown as his last five holes led to a double bogey, birdie, bogey, bogey and bogey, but the 23-year-old rising star had done plenty until then to still finish well ahead at 17-under for the tournament. Hindustan Times – your fastest source for breaking news! Read now. Local boy Veer Ahlawat’s 18th hole eagle three lifted him into tied second at 13-under with Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg and USA’s Johannes Veerman. Indian Open golf: Veer Ahlawat top Indian at tied 6th on rain-truncated day | Golf News

In its last seven editions going back to 2015, ever since the Hero Indian Open has been a European Tour (now DP World Tour) event, the cut score has never been under par. As play resumes on Saturday, after rain and warnings of a thunderstorm curtailed play late on Friday, that may well be the case. On what has had a reputation for being one of trickiest courses on the tour, the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram – especially in sunny morning conditions – has aided low-scoring, aggressive golf for most of the opening two rounds. So much so that Norway’s Espen Kofstad broke the single-round course record by shooting a 10-under 62 on Friday. Last year’s champion Marcel Siem had shot an impressive 14 under par to lift the title here, but at the halfway stage, Japan’s Keita Nakajima has already matched that after shooting seven-under 65s on successive days – inclusive of an impressive final hole eagle on Friday – to take the lead. The Fab Four—Keita Nakajima, Romain Langasque, Matteo …

Indian Open golf: Home contingent disappoints on opening day as none feature inside top-10 after first round | Golf News

The home challenge started disappointingly on a low-scoring day with favourable playing conditions, as only three Indians were among the top 20 after the opening round of the 2024 Hero Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Thursday. Placed first and second respectively on last year’s Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Order of Merit, Om Prakash Chouhan and Aman Raj, alongside Karandeep Kochhar, were the highest-placed Indians – tied 14th at 4-under-par. Veer Ahlawat was tied 22nd after shooting three under par, and India No.1 Shubhankar Sharma, who had been in form and seen as the biggest Indian hope, recovered from a poor start and ill health to finish two under par. Gaganjeet Bhullar was tied 34th alongside Shubhankar.
