The Indian senior women’s team will be in action for their first game of the year as they will face Maldives at the second of two FIFA international friendlies at the Padukone – Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru on Thursday. After winning 14-0 in the first meeting on December 30, coach Joakim Alexandersson has made six changes to his squad of 23 for Thursday’s match. Five of them – Pyari Xaxa, Lynda Kom Serto, Grace Dangmei, Juli Kishan, and Sanju, all of whom started the first game, have been released from the team. Indian star paddlers Achanta Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra will lead the Indian squad at the 27th Asian Table Tennis Championships, scheduled from October 7 to 13 in Astana. Sharath will captain the men’s team comprising of Manav Thakkar, Harmeet Desai, G Sathiyan, and Manush Shah while Manika will lead the women’s team which also has Sreeja Akula, Ayhika Mukherjee, Diya Chital and Sutirtha Mukherjee. “The selection process was rigorous, with the TTFI giving precedence to the world ranking, international experience, and performance at the national level as key criteria for the final squad,” said the TTFI in a statement.
